The most wholesome rant on AI development. “If you love software development don’t go do something else … It’s more vital now then ever to actually learn how to code” — Brad Traversy

Indian Parents: * Don’t go to ITI, do BTech * Don’t work in factories, sit in AC * Don’t learn tools, learn coding Now: → AI writes the code → No young people on shop floors → Factories rely on workers over 40 We looked down on skilled work. Now we need it more than ever.

I’d be all-in on AI. Most people don’t know how to use it. If you do, you win. It’s the consulting career of the future.

.Amjad Masad on if you should learn to code. If you're trying to actually build things... "don't worry about learning to code first, go build it first" "if they have a gift for computers...they should learn to code" "if they have a gift for building things...then no"

Announcing Generative AI for Software Development, a new specialization on Coursera! Taught by my friend and longtime instructor Laurence Moroney 🇺🇸🇮🇪 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. Using GenAI for software development goes well beyond using chatbots for code generation. This 3-course series shares current best practices for AI use through the entire software development lifecycle: From design and architecture to coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. You'll learn to use LLMs as your thought partner, pair programmer, documentation specialist, security analyst, and performance optimization expert. There's a lot that anyone that writes software can gain from using GenAI, and this will show you how! Please sign up here to get started!

How is AI changing software development? Martin Fowler (Martin Fowler) says AI is the biggest shift in the field since high-level languages appeared (ones like Fortran or C, offering a new abstaction level to code at, versus Assembly). We also talked about where GenAI works well, thoughts on refactoring, software architecture and more. I very much recommend checking out the whole episode: • YouTube: • Spotify: • Apple: Brought to you by: • Statsig — The unified platform for flags, analytics, experiments, and more. Check it out: • Linear — The system for modern product development. Read how Linear does Quality Wednesdays – it’s fascinating:

BIP-110 mandatory signaling has begun! Congratulations to all involved! I hope everyone learned something about consensus and how forks work. Now we can go back to productive discussions about Bitcoin software development.

I finished the 32-part series on Psychonauts 2's development and it’s the greatest documentary about game development ever made. 6 years of filming, 5000 hours of footage, brutally honest. Watch this if you want to know how games are made! It’s a miracle!

Elon Musk: At this point, education is mostly a social experience. You don’t actually need school to learn anymore. With AI, you can learn just as much—or more—on your phone at home. School is becoming less about knowledge and more about being around people your own age. People should go to school today mainly for the social side of it. The learning itself? AI can already do that better. Conventional schooling could be vastly improved, and individualized AI teachers will outperform the one-size-fits-all classroom. Education doesn’t need to happen in a building anymore. You could learn everything at home on your phone. Kids go to school to hang out, build social skills, and experience a coming-of-age—not because it’s the most effective way to learn. School today functions as a social filter, not a learning engine. AI handles the learning better. Humans still go to school for friendships, relationships, leadership, confidence, and real-world social development.

Tyrese Haliburton says players are being taught how to flop: “It’s for sure being taught. I don’t think head coaches are, but it’s a part of player development before you get to the NBA. It’s something you naturally work on. It’s now a part of the game.” (via Pat McAfee, h/t Oh No He Didn't)

Every day, THE REAL WORLD students are told exactly how the world works, Then they are told EXACTLY what to do to make some money. Then they go do it. It’s the only way to actually learn anything.
