However, how would you know someone has a criminal background records in Nigeria? Is there a public database where such records can be found with a candidate's NIN?

They trained here, worked here, and carry £100,000 in student loans; but the Government has not yet prioritised them for UK specialist training. Every year, a strict Government imposed cap on speciality training numbers blocks thousands of doctors from progressing in their careers. In 2025 alone, there were 20,000 more applications than training places. Despite that, UK trained doctors aren’t being prioritised for these limited posts. 🔸I am on a break from teaching law but, based on the quality of some of the law interns and graduates that the UZ is currently producing, I wish they would go back to teaching law in the way that they used to. Even the most basic law course, Contract, cannot be taught in three or four weeks as is happening now. The law and its controversies must be read, digested, debated and understood. The historical background and philosophical underpinnings of any field must be interrogated rigorously to develop an effective, critically thinking and problem-solving legal mind. This slap dash microwave stuff, the cramming (versus comprehension) of concepts and arbitrary consolidation of different subjects (eg Property Law and Intellectual Property Law) into one will not give us the law graduates we need. Coursework must be demanding and solid feedback given to the individual students upon completion. Tutorials are a must. One must leave law school with the ability to write a cogent legal essay, to identify and analyze issues when presented with a legal problem and articulate a legal position persuasively. A law student must have the ability to state the rationale and weaknesses in the law and propose robust proposals for reform. While law school cannot teach a lawyer everything, it must offer a firm foundation to make the graduate competitive in the job market, courtroom or boardroom. They must be able to attend any world class graduate school and be comparable to those at the top. We need new leaders.🇿🇼

RANDOM SHOTS: A leader must be out there. Must be in touch. Must be at the forefront. Must see things for himself. Must not be surrounded by sycophants who tell him all is well when it’s clearly not. A leader must be courageous, leading from the front, and not cocooned away from the pain of the people he/she leads. Rain, or shine, a leader takes the risk so his/her people do not have to. The reason to want to be in office is to make the lives of your citizens safe, easier and better. You don’t have to be liked by everybody, but you must do right by everybody for the greater good and not for the benefit of a few.

Governor Alex Otti in Absu, Uturu today announced that all First Class graduates from three convocation sets across universities will receive automatic scholarships to pursue their Master’s and PhD programs in any Nigerian university. He also directed the Head of Service to identify immediate gaps in the civil service, which will be filled by 100 exceptional graduates from the three sets. In addition, the governor approved ₦200 million to support up to 100 graduates with innovative business ideas and enterprise initiatives, helping them start and scale their businesses.

I have witnessed with deep concern and sadness the acts of brutality perpetrated by members of the Police Force against citizens and Advocate Mahinyila within the precincts of the High Court of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Registry. Such criminal conduct is indefensible and cannot be justified under any circumstance. I have directed our designated officer to immediately follow up and obtain a detailed account of the incident. Upon receipt of this report, the Governing Council of the Tanganyika Law Society will convene urgently to deliberate on the matter and provide a clear direction. These people know nothing about Christianity let alone the restored gospel. Being “active” is not the goal.
