The days of walking onto a Sound Transit train without paying could soon become much more difficult. Sound Transit is looking to install fare gates at 14 of its busiest stations, forcing riders to tap their ORCA card to get in and out. The transit agency is losing millions of dollars to unpaid fares and believes this could be the fix. The proposal, which could go to a vote before the Sound Transit Board on Aug. 27, would launch a phased pilot program requiring riders to tap an ORCA card or other approved payment method both when entering and exiting selected stations. NY1 transit reporter Samantha Liebman gives us a look at one of the three vending machines now located in Manhattan subway stations. The MTA is planning to install them at more than two dozen subway stations across the city into next year. The machines will pop up inside vacant subway retail spaces, selling beverages and snacks to straphangers, the transit agency said.

After riding Line 5 Eglinton in its entirety twice, I’ll confidently say it’s a good addition to Toronto’s transit network. The underground section (60%ish) of the route is essentially a subway: fast and reliable. Surface section is fast when you don’t hit lights (TSP is coming).

Our officers are aware of a demonstration planned for this Saturday at Sankofa Square (Yonge–Dundas). Our officers will be there to help keep everyone safe and to support the right to peaceful protest. Motorists may experience delays and temporary road closures and are encouraged to avoid the area. Real-time updates, including traffic disruptions and road closures, will be provided on Toronto Police Operations.

With over 200 interactions per week, the Downtown Community Outreach and Response (CORE) Team is having a positive impact in the Yonge and Dundas (Sankofa Square) area. The Downtown CORE initiative is a collaboration between Toronto Public Health and TPS. It includes public health nurses, who offer vulnerable individuals in this neighbourhood access to health & social services, and police officers who ensure the safety of everyone involved. The goal is to provide immediate assistance and long-term solutions while building relationships and trust in this community.

#WATCH | Delhi: Visuals from Sarai Kale Khan Metro Station as PM Narendra Modi will shortly inaugurate the remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). These include the 5 km section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and the 21 km section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh. Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station of the corridor, is one of the four Namo Bharat stations to be commissioned with this inauguration.

Pittsburgh police will no longer respond to theft, harassment, criminal mischief, and burglary calls between 3 am and 7 am. Between those hours there also won't be a desk officer at any of the six zone stations.

I visited the site of the future Eglinton Crosstown West Extension last week to check out the great progress being made. This extended transit line will be within walking distance of close to 40,000 commuters, connecting communities in Mississauga and Etobicoke and keeping thousands of workers on the job during construction.

Kenyan police have a reputation for being problematic, corrupt, and violent, but this level of disrespect toward a police officer is unacceptable. The foreigner captured in this video deserves to be prosecuted, jailed, and then deported. I can guarantee that if it had been a Kenyan who dared to do this to an officer, he would have been beaten to death. Kenyan police fear whiteness and anyone who looks rich. As President, I shall send all current police officers for retraining and retire those who cannot be retrained. In my government, we shall pay police better, upgrade police stations to ensure better working conditions, and have officers live in the community. The police will be allowed to have a union to fight for their rights.
