Yesterday, I had to make a u-turn while heading to my barber's, on receiving reports of a valid threat of extreme violence from Saudi Airlines' Kano-bound passengers who were stranded in Abuja due bad weather in Kano. Some other airlines had also diverted to Abuja for the same reason. I stood amidst over 200 angry passengers, pacifying, reprimanding, and resolving. This is the most adrenaline-rushing part of my job. It requires tact, firmness, wisdom, and team work. But it is risky. Some passengers are extremely violent. A huge, hulk-like, and highly vexed passenger threatened to beat me up yesterday. I looked at him. Initially, I was angry. But I saw the worry in his eyes and decided to handle him differently. We became best friends and he has invited me to his Lagos residence. I will not go, sha. I must acknowledge the support of our Honourable Minister, Festus Keyamo SAN, who insisted that the rights of the passengers be prioritised. He continued to ask for updates on the welfare of passengers late into the night. I am proud of the efforts put in by my DGCA, Capt. Chris Najomo over this matter. To protect the rights of Nigerian passengers, he made a number of critical decisions that established the dignity of Nigerian passengers. I must also thank Ifueko Abdulmalik for her role in resolving this saga. She kept communications with the Saudi side open. How do you leave 401 passengers stranded and say you'd return to your country without having made alternative arrangements for their movements to final destination? While acknowledging the fact that it was tough for the airline as they have no operational base in Abuja, the entire saga could have been handled more professionally. I met with the Saudi ambassador to Nigeria and made it clear that the airline cannot operate with disregard for the consumer protection regulations. Much later last night, we were able to conclude arrangements with UMZA to fly the stranded passengers to Kano via three successive flights. My team and I waited through it all. I acknowledge also, the stoic efforts put in by the FAAN Regional General-Manager of the airport. He stood with me through the entire ordeal and showed courage in the face of the intimidation. Umza airlifted the passengers thus: The first Umza aircraft departed ABV for Kano with a total of 74+4 passengers on board. The second Umza aircraft also departed ABV for Kano with a total of 73+4 passengers on board. The third and final Umza aircraft departed with 34 passengers on board. In total, 181 + 8 passengers were airlifted to Kano. Saudi has made a commitment to compensate the affected passengers. This brings to an end, a disruption of almost 48 hours that began as force majeure, transitioned to poor passenger handling, and ended with a great display of effective team work from the Minister, to the DGCA, and all the way down to our hardworking CPOs. In closing, I will say this. Passengers have a responsibility to understand the situations that are beyond the control of airlines. We must minimize the resort to violence inside aircraft and airport terminals this year.

🇨🇳 🚆I took the high speed train in China today We booked business class tickets, which was relatively cheap, just $90 for 3.5 hours You could get 2nd class tickets for just $20 by the way Also this train is the fastest train in the world now, faster than Japan's Shinkansen that I took a week ago Here is the business class lounge, it's a special entrance at the station with its own security, and free coffee and snacks, it does have a bit of a 1970 North Korea aesthetic which you honestly don't see here a lot, everything is modern. I think because the train company is state owned? But then the station itself does look hypermodern, any Chinese know why? Of course the video starts with a cough 😊👌 Today was a bit of an ordeal, we went to the station before, we didn't get tickets because there's so many "official" restrictions on luggage and we already lost so many things (like powerbanks), and gf was understandably scared to lose more stuff So we thought we'd first try enter the station and pass security and if we got through fine then by tickets on Trip app But then the Didi driver drove us to the dodgiest entrance of the station called West Squate (not the most popular one) where it was a crowd of ppl trying to enter, we were stopped and couldn't enter and the old man started yelling Chinese at us A group of Thai behind us were also yelled to leave by him So then we and the Thai were outside We then discovered it was because you need a ticket to enter the station in the first place, which again is pretty unique to China In Japan, you just walk in, buy a ticket 20min before and board, not in China Anyway a lot of lessons learnt again today, and that's why traveling in China is hard but also fun, but once you get it it's actually easier than abroad, like there's no train tickets at all, not even digital! On the 13th of Sept, someone transferred 180k for an iPhone Xs 256GB. After acknowledging his receipt, he called, and I told him we don't have it but will ask colleagues and let him know. I asked my friend, and he told me 190k. I begged him to leave it at 180k because that is what the guy deposited (check frame 2 for reference). When he sent the phone from Kano to Jos, then I noticed it was an Xs Max. Seeing that the guy was in a hurry and didn't want to disappoint, I called him and told him what happened and said if he wants the Max, he can take it at no additional cost. I was willing to settle the difference because it was his first time buying from us. I packaged it with a new premium charger because all our used phones are sent packaged in our branded box with a charger, and I sent it to him in Abuja. He later messaged that he has received the phone and truly appreciates it. After months of not receiving any complaints from him, it clearly indicates that he has received a fully functioning phone. It is in our policy that if you find anything faulty within one week, you can return it to us and either ask for a replacement or refund. What this means is that the cost of bringing it from Kano to Jos, the packaging and charger, and the delivery to Abuja are all a loss to me. But I didn't mind because at least I have satisfied him. Nine weeks later, while I was in Kano, I saw a call from an unknown number. When I picked up, he said it was him. He told me that the camera has started giving him problems. The guy didn't pick; he texted and informed me and later called me. I told him to go to anyone he trusts and let me know the amount he spent. Later in the night, I received his messages on WhatsApp with a threat that he will make a video to tarnish the image of my business.
