The report card from Harrisburg is in and the results are alarming. Just 12% of Harrisburg High School students are proficient in reading. Only 2% are proficient in math. And science proficiency is just 3%. Our students deserve better. It’s time for Pennsylvania to opt-in to the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit and give families real options at getting a quality education.

Our education system is failing miserably Black American is asked to read this simple sentence The only words she can read is the word ‘funding’ and a couple more but can’t read or even pronounce most of the other words Here are the English proficiency score percentages according to national data Elementary School - White students: ~35–40% proficient - Black students: ~15–20% proficient Middle School - White students: ~30–35% proficient - Black students: ~12–18% proficient High School - White students: ~35–40% proficient - Black students: ~15–20% proficient Now obviously there is a gap here where white students are twice as likely to be proficient at reading compared to black students but that’s not the point The point is nobody passes on average. Even at 40% that’s less than half our kids finishing high school proficient at English This is horrible

Marr/Cook Elementary School earned the 2026 Governor's Science of Reading Champions Award for their work in literacy, and they participate in the new OhioSEE program, which is bringing crucial vision services directly to the school. ➡️

Baltimore is still one of the most violent big cities in America. On violent crime it sits around the top 5 nationally. Among cities over 500,000 it’s usually right behind Memphis and Detroit. Only 33% of Baltimore students are proficient in reading and only 13% in math. It’s not a surprise that a back-to-school giveaway in Baltimore turned into a MASSIVE brawl. The city looks like a jungle, tbh.
