Protecting kids is commendable, but turning into the global speech police is not. When transparency is avoided, it’s usually because there’s something to hide. Time for the eSafety Commissioner to go.

Good job or not, her motives reflect WEF influence, and her reference to the UK, led by a WEF-influenced PM, is telling. I distrust her, especially when she boldly claims she needn't prove her beneficial impact. She must provide evidence justifying her position and confirming she's not overstepping her role.

If the e-commissioner is not fulfilling her obligations in a completely transparent manner with yourself as a senator, how in the world can citizens have any faith that her position? You shouldn't need to request a resignation, you should be capable of directing it on behalf of the citizens of Australia. No one person should ever have had that amount of power over information, or influence.

Still catching up on the backlog: this clip is from December Estimates. I went into this session with the eSafety Commissioner, Ms Inman Grant, with a few goals. Firstly, I asked Ms. Grant about her recent trip to Stanford University. If Australian taxpayers are footing the bill for a trip to meet with AI and social media giants in the US, they deserve to see the receipts. The Commissioner has taken on notice to provide a full log of her meetings, speeches, and the total cost. I then shifted to the “international alarm” surrounding her conduct. I asked the Minister if it concerned the government that Congressman Jim Jordan and the US House Judiciary Committee are so troubled by her actions that they’ve called for her to testify. Senator Green tried her best to dodge the question sprouting bipartisan support and protecting children, however I stayed focused on how the Commissioner is being seen as a "global censor." I asked about her personal philosophy on censorship. The Commissioner was quick to deny the label, claiming she only acts on public complaints regarding high-threshold harm. She insists she doesn't regulate political speech, yet in my view, she wields enormous power. While I’ve complimented her office's work on child safety in the past, the potential for her "world-leading" reach to impact the free speech of adults remains a serious concern of mine.

I want to ask three questions first, which will make it very clear that the BJP is directing and using the Election Commission to damage India's democracy. ❓ Why is it that the CJI was removed from the selection panel of the Election Commissioner? What motivation could there be to remove the CJI? Do we not believe in the CJI? Of course, we believe in the CJI. Why is he not in that room? I sit in that room. It is a so-called democratic decision. On one side, PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah. On the other side, the leader of the opposition. I have no voice in that room. What they decide is what happens. So, why are the Prime Minister and Amit Shah so keen on choosing exactly who the Election Commissioner is going to be? ❓ This is a devastating one. No Prime Minister has done this in the history of India. In December 2023, this government changed the law. They changed the law to make sure that no Election Commissioner could be punished for any action they take while they are Election Commissioners. I again call the eSafety Commissioner to resign. She has been caught redhanded and named in a US House Judiciary Committee Report as conspiring to use the Australian Office of eSafety to engage in foreign election interference and violate US laws. Her position is now completely untenable. But where is Opposition ? Where is the Opposition Leader Sussan Ley and the new Shadow Minister for Communications Melissa Macintosh ? Why aren’t they out there demanding that Albanese sack eSafety Karen ? Sadly, they are as weak as water, and we live in a one-party state with Labor and Labor-Lite. And that‘s right, it was the Liberals that employed and empowered eSafety Karen. And while I was previously calling for eSafety Karen to be sacked, Peter Dutton as Opposition Leader was praising her in Parliament - so to my former Liberal colleagues, this is just another case of "Craig Kelly was right".
