📹 UPDATE: NIGERIAN DEFENCE ACADEMY (NDA) CADETS MAKE HISTORY BECOME ONLY INTERNATIONAL COMPETITORS IN MAIDEN CHINESE MILITARY SAILING SKILLS COMPETITION Seven cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) have made international history by flying Nigeria’s flag as the only international competitors who competed against their Chinese counterparts at the maiden edition of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy “Deep Sea Warrior” International Seamanship Competition hosted by the PLA Naval Submarine Academy and was held at the Qingdao International Sailing Centre from 16 – 21 October, 2023. The seven cadets of NDA, comprising 6 male cadets and one female cadet, include Cadets TS Olajide, JO Ughasoro, OD Hassan and JP Offikwu. Others are Cadets AS Mohammed, K Nsirim and MS Umana. The cadets who spent a week in China and won several medals at the competition joined other Midshipmen from seven other countries and overseas cadets studying at China’s naval academies, as well as their Chinese counterparts, participating in the weeklong “Deep Sea Warrior” International Seamanship Competition and International Midshipman Exchange Week in Qingdoa. However, of the 8 foreign participants only cadets from the Nigerian Defence Academy competed alongside their Chinese counterparts in the various events in the seamanship competition, other countries participated as Observers. The Commandant NDA, Major General JO Ochai, praised the cadets and disclosed that the development is a product of the new cadets training curriculum recently adopted by the Academy to make its graduate more attuned to modern warfare and prepare them adequately, with the right skills and aptitude, to quickly fit into the needs of the Nigerian Armed Forces and bring the current throes of insecurity in Nigeria to a stop. “The training in NDA has been boosted with the new training curriculum which places more emphasis on physical fitness and special military capabilities for our cadets. What you are witnessing is a direct result of this new path to cadets’ training in NDA,” Maj Gen Ochai revealed. The International Seamanship Competition held in Qingdao International Sailing Centre and the nearby waters, where the seven NDA cadets would be competed for laurels alongside their Chinese counterparts, hosted a number of events including Sailing Skills, Maritime Obstacle Relay Race, Maritime Lifesaving Race and Team Triathlon, among other competitive events. The cadets also participated in other activities such as academic exchanges, seminars, visits to naval venues, friendly sporting competitions and midshipman club activities, which formed part of activities for the Midshipmen Exchange Week, themed “Joining Hands to Build a Maritime Community with a Shared Future, And Making the Blue Ocean More Peaceful and Prosperous in Our Era”. The participation of the seven cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy at the International Seamanship Competition and Exchange Week is a historic event that put Nigerian on the global map as the first and only country to compete in the competition against the host, China, within the latter’s territorial waters. At the end of the competition NDA participants won a number of medals in several categories, putting up an impressive performance for Nigeria on the international stage. #Creativity✍🏻✨

Empowering Balochistan’s Daughters, Powering a Brighter Future #Turbat — A meaningful initiative at Girls Cadet College Turbat brought education, technology and the extraordinary potential of Balochistan’s young daughters into focus. The Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan (South) visited the college, interacted with faculty members and cadets, and highlighted the importance of education, modern technology, discipline, dedication and hard work in preparing the young generation for the opportunities and challenges of the modern world. Addressing the cadets, he emphasized that education remains the foundation of progress, while technology has become an essential tool for learning, research, innovation and professional development. The students were encouraged to remain focused on their studies, make positive use of modern opportunities and continue developing themselves through knowledge, discipline, confidence and determination. In a significant step towards expanding access to modern learning, FC Balochistan (South), in collaboration with Parwaz Foundation, distributed laptops to 67 deserving final-year cadets. This was not simply the distribution of 67 laptops; it was the opening of 67 new pathways to knowledge, research, digital learning and opportunity. For these young cadets, access to technology means greater possibilities to learn beyond the classroom, explore new ideas, conduct research, develop digital skills and connect with a wider world of knowledge. Each laptop is a practical tool that can support academic excellence today and help prepare these talented students for higher education and professional success tomorrow. The daughters of #Balochistan carry immense talent, determination and ambition. The young cadets studying at Girls Cadet College Turbat represent a generation that is preparing itself to step forward with confidence and purpose. Their dreams can lead them towards fields ranging from medicine, engineering and education to research, technology, entrepreneurship, public service and many other professions where their knowledge and abilities can make a meaningful difference. The collaboration between FC Balochistan (South) and Parwaz Foundation reflects the value of investing in students by providing them with the resources needed to turn their potential into achievement. When talented cadets receive education, technology and encouragement, they gain more than academic support; they gain greater access to opportunities through which they can shape their own futures and contribute to the progress of their communities. The 67 cadets who received laptops today represent 67 journeys of ambition, determination and possibility. Their classrooms are becoming gateways to a wider world, their education is opening new horizons, and their aspirations are reaching towards a future defined by knowledge, skill and achievement. Balochistan’s daughters are not waiting for the future to arrive; they are preparing themselves to shape it. From the classrooms of Turbat, a new generation is learning, growing and building the confidence to take on greater responsibilities. Their education is an investment in the province, their talent is a source of strength, and their achievements will continue to inspire countless young girls across Balochistan to dream bigger, aim higher and pursue excellence. Their potential is vast, their aspirations are rising, and their journey has already begun.

"Carol Vorderman MBE formally comes to the end of her 10 year commission after becoming the first female Honorary Group Captain and Ambassador for the RAF Air Cadets in its history in 2014." After a properly lovely chat and a cuppa with Chief of Air Staff Sir Rich Knighton and his immensely kind words last week, I'm a very happy woman. I've been formally involved in RAF Air Cadets and other aspects of RAF life for 10 years which has gone like the wind (no pilot pun intended). I am a pilot with a degree in Engineering, and have been a huge supporter of STEM & young people and education all of my life & I felt I could help as the first female Ambassador for RAF Air Cadets. Both of my children were cadets and Katie spent 4 years in RAF Air Squadron when she was at Cambridge. It’s been a wonderful 10 years and every moment spent with our Cadets & the incredible volunteers who run it at squadron level has been special, from being on camp with them at RIAT Royal International Air Tattoo to witnessing the incredible Musical abilities of so many young bands, from Space Camp, and them lining the red carpet and being on stage with me at the Pride of Britain Awards, to taking them to America to celebrate the F-35’s early days with Lockheed Martin. The 1 Group Carol Vorderman Award was created for the person within 1 Group who has voluntarily provided exemplary work for the Air Cadets each year and I felt hugely honoured for that. Thank you Air Cadets for some wonderful memories. I wish you all the very best for the future. But my association doesn't end here. I've worked with RAF Charities for almost 20 years including helping to raise money for the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park. Hosting the Salute Area on the day of the memorial’s unveiling was an extraordinary honour. Here's to a vibrant future. Just a TINY number of happy pics from over the years.
