So I just wrote something with a heart full of gratitude. I did. But these days, even when I try something lighthearted, there have been various things going on and with the group activities and everything and so….. I've started a nonprofit, GuardRailNow, and I need your help. Our approach is unique: I do not come from tech. I cannot write code. I do not live in SF. I am not an EA. I am not a rationalist. I have never been to Silicon Valley. I'm a dad in Baltimore talking about AI extinction risk to other people like me. AI Safety loves selling Bibles outside churches, preaching to the choir. It's easy to talk to people who are like you. It's much harder to talk with people who are very different than you. So why would AI safety people, who are from/in the SF bubble, who use EA/rationalist speech patterns and thought, think they are in any way the right people to bring the message to everyone else?? They are not. If AI Safety wants to get regular people on their side here's a hint: get out of the way. You are the problem. You do not act or talk or think in ways that connect with everyone else. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But our lives are on the line. Get over it and pass the ball to people like me.
