Not only is Gavin Newsom allowing Mexico to drain 22 billion gallons of raw sewage into America but Mexico is also dumping their trash California Rep Carl DeMaio exposes “Mexico has been quietly dumping thousands and thousands of tons of their garbage on our side of the border” “This is something you're not hearing from the liberal media, even though they claim to be pro-environment. The government of Mexico has been quietly dumping thousands and thousands of tons of their garbage on our side of the border. This comes after we've already caught them dumping millions and millions of gallons of their sewage into our beaches and our bays. And I just fired off a request to the US federal government for a federal investigation into the illegal dumping of this garbage on our side of the border. Today is my third visit to the San Diego area in the last 10 months. EPA has been working EVERY DAY at implementing the permanent, urgent 100% solution to the decades old Tijuana River raw sewage emergency. The agreement we signed with Mexico last year includes reduced timelines and additional necessary Mexico side projects (at no added US taxpayer cost). As these project are completed in 2026 and 2027 (with one project slated for 2028), Americans will be finally crossing the long awaited finish line of this crisis and nightmare.

While this cross-border health crisis doesn’t simply end with a stroke of a pen, the urgent completion of these agreed upon actions will finally result in an end to this human health catastrophe for good. Since my visit to this border region in April 2025, my team has been working VERY closely with Mexico on all measures necessary to end this crisis, and that level of engagement will be sure to continue to ensure ALL actions outlined in yesterday’s agreement, and our July Memorandum of Understanding, are implemented as quickly as humanly possible to deliver the long sought after 100% solution. Just a week ago, we were notified that Mexico was preparing to release millions of gallons of sewage into our region. Thanks to public pressure, awareness, and advocacy—Mexico is now redirecting that sewage to their own treatment plant instead of dumping it into the U.S. We are cautious, but this could be a huge win for our communities, our coastline, and our environment. It proves that when we raise our voices, we can protect what matters. Let’s keep up the fight for clean water and accountability!
