Today I voted for protecting nature. The Lords added sensible, evidence-based amendments to the Planning & Infrastructure Bill to strengthen nature protection. But the govt rejected them. Ministers need to listen - to experts, to trusted organisations, and to the public.

You saw my recent video showing low to middle-income homes at Catherine Estates. Today we look at development taking place in other sections of the housing market. While we have made significant strides in providing middle and affordable housing, we recognize the challenges in the low-income and achievable housing markets. That’s why we continue to incentivize development, provide land, and introduce initiatives like the Guaranteed Purchase Programme (GPP) to attract more builders to this sector. We want to see developers build 10,000 homes at a time, bringing houses to market at a much faster rate. With continued investment, capacity-building, and a long-term vision, we will ensure that every Jamaican has access to safe, affordable housing. We are committed to delivering quality housing for Jamaicans under our housing policy and the transformation of Bernard Lodge is just the beginning. As we continue on this journey, we reaffirm our commitment to the people of Jamaica, because under our housing policy, homeownership is a promise we intend to keep.

To combat the housing shortage, I'll fight to build millions of units of affordable housing — reinstating the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to build what the private market won't. I'd double housing vouchers, make rent tax deductible just like mortgages, and ban private equity from buying up our homes. I'm not bought by developers or corporations so I will actually fight for you in Congress. Read my full housing plan with the link in bio!
