Ha, clever idea! Grafting & mobile CRISPR for genome editing in plants. An unmodified shoot is grafted onto roots containing a mobile CRISPR/Cas9 moving from root to shoot. There it edits the plant DNA but leaves no trace of itself in the next gen! Voilà!

THE CONTRASTING EFFECTS OF BLUE AND RED/NIR LIGHT ON THE MITOCHONDRIA. - Recent research published this year in Nature: Scientific Reports demonstrates the effects that light in the built environment has on human health. Our modern build environment is dominated by short-wavelength light from LEDs and fluorescent lighting. This can have deleterious effects on the mitochondria. Adding to this effect is the lack of long-wavelength light from sources like the sun and incandescent lighting bulbs. These long light wavelengths have a beneficial effect on mitochondria function and overall human health. Many people often times wonder why it is that mosquitoes transmit malaria from one person to another but same mosquito cannot transmit HIV from one person to another. I summarized the reason in this video but I will also reiterate 1. HIV cannot survive inside mosquitoes When mosquito bites someone infected with HIV, it actually picks up some of the virus . However the virus is rapidly broken down in the gut of the mosquito . Hence it does not get passed to the next person. 2. Mosquitoes do not inject previous blood into the next person When mosquitoes bite a person, they inject saliva into the person’s bite spot and this saliva is what prevents the blood from clotting while the mosquito sucks out the blood juice. It is through this process of injection of saliva that it passes Malaria , Dengue fever etc but HIV can’t be passed this way 3. HIV can only survive I specific body cells HIV needs specific body cells called CD4 cells to survive . Of course mosquito does not have those cells and HIV can thus not survive inside them. It is degraded immediately Therefore when next someone suggests that Mosquito can transmit HIV. Please feel free to give them a resounding slap on my behalf . Thank You Dr Penking

Jim Allison's conversation about treating the immune system and not the cancer and why he believed T cells should work for all tumor types. This was before he won the Nobel prize. Completely agree with him and met him for the first time at the Nixon / Milken Institute, Cancer 2035: A Roadmap for the Future. This conversation was a great prelude to my presentation on T and NK cells. From taking off the brakes of T cells to growing T cells and NK cells.
