"I used to be a bitcoiner. The transition to a new store of value only happens once every 3,000 years. That's the main prize -- just focus on that. But [security] is the criteria that ultimately convinced me to flip from Bitcoin to ETH." "I have a higher degree of certainty that Ethereum will be around longer [than Bitcoin]. The reason for that is because Bitcoin relies on proof-of-work, which is less efficient than proof-of-stake and doesn't scale with the value of the network. And as the block subsidy of Bitcoin halves every four years, it is increasingly becoming more and more reliant on transaction fees to fund the security budget paid to miners." "If you look at [Bitcoin's] security budget right now, about 0.6% of revenue to miners is transaction fees... 🚨Bitcoin’s Catastrophic Problem NO ONE Is Talking About! Bitcoin produces 144 blocks per day. Fees are paid per block, every ~10 minutes. Yesterday, Bitcoin Layer-1 fees totaled ~2.6 BTC for the entire day. (Approx. $180K) That works out to ~0.018 $BTC per block. Meanwhile, the real cost to secure a block (electricity + hardware) is often $150k–$200k, depending on hash rate and energy prices. Today, miners survive because of the 3.125 $BTC block subsidy. Fees do not matter NOW, because the Bitcoin emissions are worth enough to offset costs. 🚨THE PROBLEM? When Bitcoin reaches 21 million supply, that subsidy goes to zero. At that point, fees must fully pay miners — or hash rate drops, security weakens, and the system degrades. To break even long-term, Bitcoin needs tens of millions per day in L1 fees. Yesterday was sub $200,000. I own Bitcoin. I want it to succeed. But pretending this isn’t a real issue won’t solve it.

This is how Vitalik explains it: "Ethereum's barbell strategy of L1 and L2 is basically that L2s do the thing that require centralization and they get the benefits of centralization which includes the ability to do HFT but at the same time they benefit from L1 providing security and censorship resistance" HFT = high frequency trading. He's saying speeding up slot times to the millisecond enters you into a reduce bandwidth increase latency arms race that leads to centralization of block production and validation - see nasdaq. Most people think about Bitcoin treasury companies incorrectly Here is why I think they are good for Bitcoin & why they are misunderstood: 1) Treasury companies are capitalizing the Bitcoin industry for a century to come 2) They are future Bitcoin Banks 3) However, they are developing in the reverse order compared to everything else - monetization first and then later on core business activities -- Bitcoin has traditionally received $1 for every $100 in funds that Crypto took in - it has historically been challenging to raise money for Bitcoin focused businesses. My view is that Treasury companies are changing this, and while the first phase will simply be acquiring as much Bitcoin as possible - they will later need to ensure the value of Bitcoin grows and find ways to use BTC as capital in a larger marketplace. These firms will become the future Bitcoin Banks and also Bitcoin conglomerates. In this exact moment in time the best use of capital is simply buying Bitcoin. It's hard to meaningfully outperform BTC, and as such all these businesses will do for a while is acquire BTC. But eventually that shifts, and these firms will see more incentive to both grow and deploy Bitcoin. They then will provide capital which, among other things, supports Bitcoin businesses and projects. Many people struggle to contextualize the current "land rush" phase with what will come later. You need to take a longer view to understand these firms. The order of operations is also reversed here. Typically you build a business or technology and then as a final step monetize it via an IPO. With Bitcoin, stage 1 is looking more like direct monetization prior to creating value via products, etc. This is deeply counter intuitive to many people in traditional finance, and also to many Bitcoiners. However, because Bitcoin is primarily money at a base level it makes sense the developmental path it is taking differs significantly from other tech. The amount of time it will take for other investors to understand this presents an opportunity for those who see it sooner. More thoughts below 👇

These firms will become the future Bitcoin Banks and also Bitcoin conglomerates. In this exact moment in time the best use of capital is simply buying Bitcoin. It's hard to meaningfully outperform BTC, and as such all these businesses will do for a while is acquire BTC. But eventually that shifts, and these firms will see more incentive to both grow and deploy Bitcoin. They then will provide capital which, among other things, supports Bitcoin businesses and projects. Many people struggle to contextualize the current "land rush" phase with what will come later. You need to take a longer view to understand these firms. The order of operations is also reversed here. Typically you build a business or technology and then as a final step monetize it via an IPO. With Bitcoin, stage 1 is looking more like direct monetization prior to creating value via products, etc. This is deeply counter intuitive to many people in traditional finance, and also to many Bitcoiners. However, because Bitcoin is primarily money at a base level it makes sense the developmental path it is taking differs significantly from other tech. The amount of time it will take for other investors to understand this presents an opportunity for those who see it sooner. More thoughts below 👇
