@NationalHways Irrespective of the £5 billion which Highways get from the tax payer, isn’t the problem with the people who have no respect for the country and consistently throw rubbish from their vehicle, rather than taking it home with them. There is no excuse.

@NationalHways Once again it is the public that create this. Yes highways England and local authorities absolutely should clear this but until people stop jettisoning their crap out of car windows this won’t change.

@NationalHways It’s a national disaster, I think these is an element of broken window effect you have a derelict building with no window smashed as soon as one window smashed, then they will all get smashed same with litter, clear the roads regain respect 🫡

@Vanessa26747879 @NationalHways Is someone ordering drivers to throw their rubbish out of cars? What's with personal responsibility? You don't see this on german roads for example.

@NationalHways I drove from Bluewater to Canterbury yesterday (M2) and so shocked at the state of the verges. Litter, plastic bottles of urine, broken signs, broken branches, sandbags, skeletons of old signs, trees covered in plastic sheeting, which had obviously been there months, and more.

@NationalHways I drove along 700 miles of this in England and Scotland last weekend. I’ve never seen it so bad.

@NationalHways The problem is the lazy people who do this everyday, then the Councils as soon as they start cutting the grass along verges turn a thousand pieces of litter into tens of thousands needs to stop 🤷🏼🫵🏼#takeithome

@NationalHways Maybe start by teaching adults to recognise when bins get full and to lose their apparent entitlement to leave mess for someone else?
