Side by side comparison between the noise level of the Type-99A tank and the 4th gen ZTZ-201 diesel-electric hybrid tank. The Type-99A has a 12 cylinder diesel engine producing 1500 horse power, while the ZTZ-201 has a 1500 horse power diesel engine with electric motors and battery pack. When the ZTZ-201 is in hybrid mode, the electric motors can help the diesel engine, so the engine does not need to be revved to a higher RPM, for the same power output compared to other non-hybrid tanks. When idling the diesel engine can be turned off, enabling the silent mode, decreasing the tank's thermal signature. When moving in pure electric mode, it becomes completely silent, making it the perfect ambush predator.
