I’ve been warned to “step back” from discussing the issue of banning of kirpans in the UK. More concerningly, I’ve been told that some people who carry kirpans may also have guns. If that statement is intended as a threat, it is completely unacceptable. Public policy issues should be debated through facts, evidence, and respectful discussion not intimidation. People should be able to express their views on laws and public safety without fear of being threatened. I will continue to support open, lawful, and respectful debate on this issue.

But what's happened is this is an assault on science and scientists. And unfortunately, Dr. Fauci is in that seat. 38 years of service to the country. The great thing about hearings when those asking the questions are in their A game as is Sen Mark Kelly here, that we see EXACTLY how this regime operates. There is no better example that NOTHING matters except the wants of a corrupt president. The U.S. spends hundreds of billions of dollars on intelligence gathering, assessment and analysis. Those meant to be advising the so called leader of the free world are frightened to even tell the truth in a hearing, for fear of upsetting a petulant child who has little intention of listening to anything they have to say. A female police officer broke down in tears after being assaulted by another female. And it took three male officers to finally restrain and arrest the attacker. If this isn’t a wake-up call for the Met Police to urgently review their training and tactics, I don’t know what is. Public safety is no place for weakness or politics. We need well-trained, resilient officers, regardless of gender,who can uphold the law and protect the public without becoming victims themselves. It’s time for serious reform. Enough is enough.

Every federal dollar intended for child care that is lost to fraud is a dollar that cannot be used to support working families who need those services. That is why today’s HELP Committee hearing on fraud in federally funded child care programs was so important. Child care fraud schemes cannot be allowed to continue, and it is incumbent on federal agencies and state leaders to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used legally, transparently, and for their intended purpose.

‘Assisted Dying’ Committee: Dutch expert reveals the emerging horrors of Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide in his country. Sometimes a short news video clip might not capture the nuance of discussion at Oireachtas Committee hearings. The RTE News coverage of Tuesday's hearing is a case in point. Prof Theo Boer had a lot to say about ‘Assisted Dying’ and Euthanasia in his own country. The big takeaway is that Euthanasia becomes the last resort for people afflicted by loneliness and fear: ‘In the past 20 years, the numbers have quadrupled and… the increase seems to accelerate rather than slow down. In some neighbourhoods assisted deaths account for between 15% and 20% of all deaths.’ ‘The second development we have seen is an expansion of the pathologies - the reasons underlying a request to die … we see a shift to patients who fear years or decades of loneliness, alienation and care dependency… This expansion is motivated - this is important for the committee, as Members of Parliament, to take into account - by a logic of justice, the question as to why euthanasia is provided only for terminal patients, for example?... After all, a person can suffer very much for non-medical reasons as well.’ ‘That is why we have now a law in parliament that legalises Euthanasia for all people over 74 years, with or without an illness…Their age is the only reason they can have 'Assisted Dying'. That in turn is why we now have a regulation that allows parents to request Euthanasia for their young children aged from zero to 11 years old. I am convinced it is only a matter of time before we take the next hurdle, namely, allowing children of dementia patients to request Euthanasia for their demented parents.’ ‘There is a saying that people can live 30 days without eating, three days without drinking, three minutes without oxygen but not three seconds without hope. Sometimes it is the total absence of hope, either in the persons themselves or in their surroundings, that contributes to their suffering.’ For those who are involved in suicide prevention work, or in keeping hope alive for elderly people, or who are committed to caring professions which are built on hope, I recommend you pay attention to these Oireachtas hearings (see Attached is a short clip of my own engagement with Prof Boer at the Committee on Tuesday. When public servants are attacked in their office, it is not just a breakdown of governance; it is a breakdown of trust in the very system meant to protect the people. In a shocking incident from Bhuvanagiri, a public servant was verbally abused and physically assaulted by a VCK Councillor, a member of the DMK Alliance. Threats of further attacks also followed this attack. This isn’t just an isolated act of lawlessness in the last 4 years in TN; it is a reflection of a political culture perpetrated by DMK that has normalised intimidation, violence, and absolute disregard for public institutions.

I’m a huge believer in policing being a job that anyone can be a part of. It takes so many different skills and personal attributes to be good at it, all of which we have and just need to develop. However, I’m also a strong believer in specialist units such as firearms units having strong and robust requirements for officers to hold those positions. When the chips are down, we need and command the best of the best! There is no room for cutting corners. Presence is one of those requirements for me which is critical, big and powerful men and women who command a presence and by their sheer attendance instil confidence in their colleagues and the public that they will resolve a situation. This for me feels like one of those moments. Excellent work by all!
