The stories about the Flydubai flight keep changing. First, it was reported that the co-pilot was Ukrainian and the main pilot was Russian. Now, they’re being reported as Omani and Emirati. First, the story was that the co-pilot was attempting to commit suicide and that the pilot stopped him. Now, it’s being reported that the co-pilot stabbed the other pilot and that passengers stopped him. The tail of the aircraft was also damaged due to the descent. Saudi forces have reportedly arrested the suspect. Saudi Arabia denied the Israeli government’s request to send a military aircraft to airlift Israeli citizens stranded in Tabuk after Flydubai Flight #FZ1073. Flydubai is now sending a recovery flight to bring them back to Dubai.

One of the heroes who saved the plane: his wife took their kid to the bathroom and heard yelling from the cockpit. He and others rushed over, meanwhile the heroic copilot who was stabbed managed to open the door somehow. Off duty pilots and passengers headed over to the controls and pulled the sinking plane up, tied up bad pilot with headphones. They also reported that their treatment in Saudi Arabia was incredible.

This may be the most incredible detail of the entire story. Reuters has reported that the pilot who was stabbed aboard FlyDubai Flight FZ 1073 manually released the lock on the cockpit door while he was lying on the floor. That pilot’s name is Captain Smit Machchhar. FOX: “The wounded pilot, listen to this, covered with blood and lying on the floor, had clicked open the release of the cockpit door.” “A second set of pilots on board who were due to replace the first pair, landed the plane.” “A pilot who had just been stabbed, had the wherewithal to open that cockpit door. This man can be described as none other than a hero.” That decision allowed the replacement pilots to reach the cockpit and take control of the aircraft. His heroic actions likely saved the the lives of every passenger on board.
