Most PM job descriptions still ask for airtight PRD writing. The best AI teams have already stopped writing them. The reason is structural, not stylistic. A traditional PRD describes how a product should behave in specific situations. Gen AI products are expected to handle almost every situation, which makes that kind of document nearly impossible to write with any precision. The replacement is a pre baked set of trivia questions for the model, paired with an answer key that scores whether the response is actually good. Build a recipes app and instead of writing pages of edge cases, you write 100 prompts covering the ice cream flavors users might ask for, score the outputs, and use that offline set as a proxy for what real users will experience once it ships. Daniel McKinnon spent years as a PM on Llama at Meta and on Gemini at Google. He's been saying the same thing for two years now. Performance on that offline set is the best available signal for whether users will be satisfied. Score well offline, ship it, and let the online numbers confirm or deny the bet. The skill that used to separate strong PMs was writing a precise spec. Now it's writing a precise test. Most PM training hasn't caught up. Define the eval.

We are witnessing a fundamental shift in how software is built. Over the decades, UI was static and predictable. But AI is changing the fundamental nature of the interface. We are moving away from fixed UI and toward a new standard: Generative UI. Generative UI lets agents participate in the UI, not just the conversation. It’s a dynamic participant in the user experience. Depending on the complexity of your app, Generative UI generally falls into three categories: 1. Static (AG-UI): UI is chosen from a fixed set of hand-built components 2. Open-Ended (MCP Apps): agent sends arbitrary content like raw HTML or iframes for total flexibility. 3. Declarative (A2UI): agent and frontend communicate via a structured UI spec for dynamic widgets and forms. The AG-UI Protocol by CopilotKit is the real breakthrough. AG-UI acts as the universal transport layer. They were so, you know that masking was like one of the most important pillars of this whole thing? Because we just now finding out from another collaborator who's working on identifying all these PCR tests and so forth. "So masking induces acidosis because you're Re-inhaling your own CO2. In fact, it re-induces acidosis within like 30 minutes of masking. You re-inhale your own CO2 and depending on your own health status and vulnerability, age and so forth, and it's more prevalent in children and in elderly. You are going to get dehydrated and you're going to get acidified and your mouth and nose are going to get acidified. And that triggers positives for PCR. That's, that's the thing that PCR measures is acidity levels. "So that's how they were getting the, the, you know, that was their mechanism to, And it also can trigger, you know, in a vulnerable state and winter for some people, it can trigger the cold. So actually it is the mechanism to induce common cold. And also to undo it is to de- acidify quickly. So that's demonstrated in, in clinical studies. And so they knew it. He walked through building an eval from zero on this episode and the score went from 0 to 0.75 in under 20 minutes. That's a PM shipping a measurable quality bar before a single line of product code exists. Here's the part that changes the PM role permanently. When the product passes the eval and users still hate it, the eval is wrong. That's on the PM. Evals make PM judgment quantifiable in a way PRDs never did. You can't hide behind "the spec was ambiguous." There's a number now. Six months ago, PM interviews asked "how do you use AI in your workflow." The next wave of interviews is going to ask you to write an eval. David Bowie performed Everyone Says 'Hi' on Top of The Pops in 2002. The song features on the Heathen album and the original track plus live, radio edit and remix versions are included in the box set. Slow Burn, Cactus, I Took A Trip On A Gemini Spaceship and Everyone Says 'Hi' were performed for the first part of the taping session for Top Of The Pops back in June 2002 at Kaufman Studios in New York. Bowie then returned to the stage in a green suit to perform tracks for TOTP2, including Sound and Vision, Ashes To Ashes, Fame and Absolute Beginners, along with a second version of Slow Burn for another show.
