I have just ridden down to the Umzingwane river from Bulawayo to inspect its flow. Sadly as this video shows there is only a trickle. Our dam watch report released by the The City of Bulawayo yesterday shows that our dams, despite the good rains, are still only sitting at 37% full.

Although Coltart came a distant number last, after he was heavily defeated in the CCC ‘community caucus’ candidate selection for Ward 4 in Bulawayo, Chamisa imposed him as the winner, ahead of the real winnera, as Harare’s choice for Bulawayo mayor. Chamisa used CCC’s Bulawayo rally two days ago on Sunday to make public his handpicking of Coltart as his Bulawayo mayoral choice. This is raising eyebrows not least because it's the Bulawayo community - not Chamisa or his Harare cohort - which must choose its Mayor through its elected councillors. Besides, why is Chamisa bent on singling out Bulawayo, and imposing a mayor there? Unconcerned that this is irreparrably damaging his claims to be a democrat, and speaking as if he thinks he would be an Executive Mayor, Coltart thundered at the Sunday rally: “I have been a lawyer in this city for 40 years. I want to use my 40 years experience as a lawyer to review all the contracts in Bhuluweyo, to see whether they are in the interests of the citizens of Bhuluweyo, if we find the contracts are not in the interests of Bhuluweyo...,” to Chamisa's amusement. It is outrageous for Coltart to think he can be the mayor of a local community whose language he does not speak, despite having been born there 66 years ago and having worked there as a lawyer for 40 years. The best he can do is to pronounce 'Bulawayo' as 'Bhuluweyo', just like the Rhodies pronounced it 43 years ago. Hayikhona!

I have just listened to this video by the new Bulawayo Mayor, David Coltart, I like what I heard. Bulawayo has a real chance for turning around with this mindset of zero tolerance to corruption, craft competence and unity. He must be supported by the Bulawayo community, all of it! Through his previous record as a GNU minister, he will be able to attract international support for Bulawayo. David will not mourn about ZANUPF, he is a good example of a person who will try until stopped, he did that as a GNU minister. You are in for good times Bulawayo, where he is frustrated, the citizens must stand with their mayor. I like his broad based message of working with everyone and not treating his work in partisan ways.

My recent visit to Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, for the inauguration of the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme, served as a poignant reminder that sustainable development must rise above the fray of partisan polarization. Finally, David Coltart Mayor of Bulawayo has been given an opportunity to speak, he says absolute power corrupts absolutely, there is no separation of power and this bill gives the president too much power in appointing judges,....and Chiefs cant be partisan. I was elected by 86% of the Bulawayo people but i must not serve more than my term, its a moral and honourable thing to do! The extension of the term limit contravenes section 328 as this calls for a referendum first. source CITE

The Bulawayo mayor said that while there might have been moments when the so-called Strategic Ambiguity was necessary, it can’t carry on indefinitely. Coltart said that he is against politics that center around an individual, through personality politics or around ethnicity or race. Here is a SOLID argument for ED2030. The MOST CONSEQUENTIAL project implemented by President President of Zimbabwe is the Gwayi - Shangani dam. This dam will COMPLETELY transform the fortunes of Matabeleland North & Bulawayo province. According to Engineers onsite, it’s 74% complete! They all upbeat about completing the project this year. For me, it’s the massive irrigation potential that it will unlock & the permanent eradication of water shortages in Bulawayo. ED can be President until 2030, he knows what he is doing.

As you may have heard, I didn't ask for this position. I thought at the age of 65 that I was nearing retirement. But it was President Chamisa who listened to the citizens of Bulawayo, not just within the Triple C, but from leadership from other political parties, civic leaders and church leaders. And it was President Nelson Chamisa who asked me to take up this role. And so, I need to thank him for the confidence that he has placed in me to perform this role; and to the leadership of my party". - David Coltart speaking after he was made Balawayo Mayor on 11 September 2023 COMMENT: There it is. Chamisa had pledged that he and his CCC would let communities choose their own representative for Parliament and for local authorities. David Coltart's confirmation that he was imposed by Chamisa is important as it exposes the Triple C leader in three ways: Firstly, Chamisa is contemptuous of local communities like Ward 4 residents in Bulawayo to whom he made a false commitment that they would be free to choose their council candidates only for him to ignore all their preferences, as he did after the Ward 4 CCC community caucus rejected Coltart. Secondly, Chamisa imposed Coltart as the winner of the CCC Ward 4 candidate-selection community caucus when Coltart had not only lost the community selection contest, but also when he had come number last in the contest. Thirdly, Chamisa's contempt for the right of the community in Ward 4 to choose its council candidate, and his imposition of Coltart who was rejected by the Ward 4 community, demonstrates that in fact Chamisa does not believe in free, fair and credible elections; instead, he believes in imposing his handpicked candidates; just like he imposed Coltart!

When the Kariba tragedy struck, David Coltart, Fadzayi Mahere🇿🇼 and others were quick to point fingers at Gvt. Should we now do the same to the The City of Bulawayo over the fire that has just broken out in a building barely 10 metres from Town House? No. Tragedies happen, and the priority should be a swift, coordinated and collaborative response, not political point-scoring. At moments like these, we need less blame and more collective responsibility to protect lives and property.
