🚨 DATA CENTER WATER USE IS MASSIVELY MISUNDERSTOOD From my conversation with $WULF CEO Paul Prager: Day one at their Lake Mariner facility (600MW AI data center) they filled the closed-loop system with 10,000 gallons of water. Since then, the site has only needed single-digit gallons of top-off. That’s less than the average U.S. swimming pool, which holds 15-20k gallons. The media narrative around data center water use is very disconnected from how modern closed-loop systems actually work.

Brian Sullivan: “Why sell 47.4M shares of stock - what are you going to do with the money?” Paul Prager: “We sold it because we could. I take partial blame along with the rest of the industry. We did not communicate the difference between a data center built in Virginia 20 years ago and what we're building now. Most data centers today don't use more water than a golf course, and so that's a huge package of misinformation. Additionally, everybody has to bring their own power. The major benefit to that is we need more power in America. Not just data centers, we need overall power. In Utah for example, I have to bring my own power and build power not only for the data center, but to give back to the community to keep power costs down. That's a major benefit. That's gonna happen across the country.

In the last six weeks alone, John's committee has run three interim data center hearings. He is also drafting the Data Center Responsibility Act for the January 2027 session - the bill that will set the framework for how Texas handles the data center build-out for a generation. Texas has 440 gigawatts of applications in the queue against roughly 110 gigawatts of current peak capacity.
