The sound bytes around the Pretti story evade both context and personal responsibility. No one has the right to charge into a law enforcement operation and confront officers. It's a crime. Carrying a gun while doing so makes it more volatile.

The line on Alex Pretti isn't that it's illegal to bring a gun to a demonstration. It's not, and it shouldn't be. It's that it is reckless, irresponsible, and above all very dumb to bring a gun when you know you will be in a hostile confrontation with law enforcement.

While one law enforcement death is too many, this is one bright spot — the amount of law enforcement deaths in the line of duty dropped 25% from 2024 to 2025, and that's the lowest number of law enforcement line of duty deaths since 1943. We're very thankful for that, and it matters who's in charge. That's an objective fact and it's a direct correlation to public policy. Republicans are going to continue to pursue legislation that makes officers safer and will also continue to advance transformational policies like No Tax on Overtime, which tens of thousands of law enforcement officers and their families have already benefited from and they're telling us about it when we go home.

Blocking law enforcement is where I’m done. Seventy-seven million Americans voted for this. Law enforcement is carrying out the will of the people. Blocking officers or interfering with arrests is a federal crime. It is impeding federal officers under 18 U.S.C. § 111, punishable by up to 8 years, and up to 20 years if it materially delays an arrest. Doing it to help someone evade capture is obstruction of justice under 18 U.S.C. § 1512, also up to 20 years. This is not protest. It is criminal obstruction. Arrest them and move on. Felonies have consequences, including not voting for a while.

Here is another snippet of my conversation with Ryan James Girdusky. There is a societal cost to enforcing the law and that cost is paid by society through danger to both our law enforcement officers and our civilians. This cost is an inevitability built it to the reality of enforcement and human nature. But America’s officers are very well trained and considering the size of our country and the number of officers or civilians lost during enforcement — we’re very successful at keeping this cost to a minimum. American law enforcement leaders are dedicated to a constant and continuing effort to minimize risks to both officers and civilians. Every life lost in an enforcement operation becomes a learning experience for officers throughout the country. Our law enforcement leaders have done a tremendous job developing training and strategies that have rendered use-of-force tragedies into anomalies. Americans should be very proud of where we are today as far as training of our officers.

BREAKING: Greg Bovino blatantly tries to create a bogus narrative over ICE's murder of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Minnesota today. He seemingly claims that because Pretti had a gun in his waist-ban (legally), it can be assumed that he wanted to "massacre law enforcement," and that gave ICE a right to shoot and kill him. Where are all of the Pro-Second Amendment people? You've gone from being against creating larger restrictions for guns to suddenly cheering on as law-enforcement kills somebody merely for legally owning a gun? It's clear as day in the videos that the officer took the gun from Pretti before he was shot multiple times and killed. This is murder!

"This individual showed up to impede a law enforcement operation and assaulted our officers," Noem said. "They responded according to their training and took action to defend the officer's life and those of the public around him." Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino held a press conference portraying CBP shooting victim Alex Pretti as a dangerous assassin who was intending to “massacre” law enforcement. For every one of Bovino’s assertions, there’s a growing amount of first-hand video and eyewitness accounts that point to the total opposite. Bovino claims that Pretti approached law enforcement with a weapon. In fact, Pretti appears to be filming on his phone and then steps in front of an agent after he pepper sprays and pushes another bystander to shield her. MPD has confirmed Alex Pretti was licensed to own and carry a gun. There is no footage showing him pulling it on law enforcement during the encounter. She then ignored lawful orders, escalated the situation, and accelerated her vehicle into an agent. That’s when she was shot. None of this was unavoidable. If she hadn’t been breaking the law and obstructing law enforcement, it wouldn’t have happened. It really is that simple.
