I saw a guy on Youtube make a DIY Kamado smoker like this with concrete blocks so decided to try it. It did the job but I felt like the smoke was escaping too much and it was difficult to control the fire, either it'll be too hot or too cold because the charcoal or wood wouldn't light. Also if fire was too hot it toasted the bottom of the meats. My takeaway is, just invest in a good smoker. And this wasn't even that cheap. About $200 for all the materials with the plywood being the most expensive thing.
