Not really. Free software pre-dates Stallman who was actually opposed to how we did free software in the 1980s because it was more free than what he wanted. He's actually opposed to completely free software.

He sparked the initial idea of FOSS and copyleft, and codified it into the GPL. He also wrote and engineered GCC, GDB, GNU Emacs and other ground-breaking free software tools, and he inspired Linus Torvalds to put Linux under the GPL.
