🇺🇸🇦🇫 AFGHAN NATIONAL CHARGED WITH MURDER OF U.S. GUARD MEMBER IN D.C. - PLEADS NOT GUILTY An Afghan national brought to the U.S. after the 2021 withdrawal has been charged with the cold-blooded execution of two National Guard members near the White House, and he just pleaded not guilty. Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, allegedly opened fire on Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, as they patrolled the nation’s capital. According to court documents, he shouted “Allahu Akbar” before shooting both soldiers in the head. Beckstrom died from her wounds. Wolfe remains hospitalized in serious condition. This wasn’t some random act of violence, it was a deliberate attack on uniformed service members in the heart of Washington, D.C. Lakanwal, who served in the Afghan army and worked with U.S. forces, was allowed into the U.S. in 2021 under a “safe haven” policy. He was living with his wife and five children in Washington state. Now he stands accused of murdering an American soldier on U.S. soil. The fact that someone granted refuge after the fall of Kabul is now facing first-degree murder charges for killing U.S. troops raises urgent questions about vetting, immigration, and the consequences of a chaotic withdrawal. Meanwhile, 500 more National Guard troops have been deployed to the capital. Officials say the mission will now extend at least through February. Beckstrom was 20 years old. She dreamed of becoming an FBI agent. And this, this, is how she died. Source: NBC News
