Normal Americans do not get special treatment when they are accused of leaving the scene of a crash, so why should anyone connected to the political elite? This is exactly why people have lost faith in the system. They see one set of rules for the people and another set of rules for the well-connected. If the allegations are true, there needs to be real accountability, not a quiet cleanup, not soft headlines, not a protected-class pass because of a famous last name. No one is above the law. I am in disbelief that this Congress still hasn’t found the political will to do something as basic, as decent, as installing a plaque to honor the law enforcement officers who protected the Capitol on January 6. Honoring the people who risked their lives for this institution should not be controversial. It should be automatic. And if we can’t agree to put up a plaque in their honor, what kind of example are we setting for the American people, for our kids, and for the next generation of officers who might one day be asked to stand between democracy and chaos?
