A new study shows offshore wind farms can alter ocean currents. By 2050, offshore wind capacity in the North Sea is set to increase more than tenfold. Researchers modelled the long-term impact. Turbines slow surface winds, foundations obstruct tidal flow, and those wake effects combine to slow surface currents by up to 20%, not just immediately around the wind farms, but across the North Sea. JUST IN: Beachfront home falls into the Atlantic Ocean on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The incident was thanks to Hurricane Ernesto which is off the coast in the Atlantic. The unfortunate owners purchased the 4 bed, 2 bath home in 2018 for $339,000. The home was built in 1973. "Large breaking waves, life-threatening rip currents, beach erosion, and ocean overwash are all possible," said Cape Hatteras officials in a news release. No one was in the home during the time of the incident.
