This is Orange Peel Phenomena Imagine we shrunk earth down to the size of an orange. To create a flat map of its surface, you'd have to "peel" the earth skin and try to flatten it, like peeling an orange and laying the rind flat on a table. The peel doesn't lie flat perfectly.
