The Nenshi NDP and Carney Liberals would rather use the tariff threat for political gain than do anything to actually stop them. While they rage in the media, Alberta’s UCP government is fighting tooth and nail to protect our jobs, our economy, and our sovereignty. I won’t back down. I won’t be silent. And I certainly won’t let Alberta be sold out by federal Liberals and their NDP allies.

We will always do what’s right for Alberta, no matter what Ottawa says. That’s why we are taking action to protect our economy and keep our businesses competitive by freezing the industrial carbon tax.

Last week we announced $49 million from the industry-funded TIER program, investing in 18 projects across our province to support Alberta’s economy while protecting the environment. These projects will create over 1600 jobs and inject $233 million into our growing economy, while at the same time improving waste management, recycling, and getting the most value out of our materials and resources. With this funding, Alberta continues to lead the way in building a thriving province and economy for future generations.

Energy is growth. But our energy costs are some of the highest in the developed world. We have to cut the cost of power and only the Conservatives have a plan to do so. The British people are being squeezed, and our industries are being held back. This spineless Labour Government refuses to take the tough decisions needed to grow our economy. The Conservatives will scrap the carbon tax, paid for by getting Britain drilling. We will back British industry, level the playing field with foreign imports, and bring jobs and investment back to the UK. This will bring more jobs and growth to the economy, and cut costs for business. We believe in enterprise, in competitiveness, and in putting our national interest first. Only the Conservatives have a plan to get Britain working again: cut spending, cut tax and back business.

It is not unreasonable for Alberta to demand fairness from Ottawa. They have shown time and again that they will put ideology before practicality, which hurts Alberta families and our economy. We’re not going to apologize for continuing to stand up for Albertans so we get the best deal possible. Since Ottawa refuses to acknowledge their overreach and its negative impacts, even after losing battles at the Federal and Supreme Courts, we are putting in additional measures to protect our provincial jurisdiction to ensure our province receives our fair share of federal tax dollars and that those dollars are spent on the priorities of Albertans.
