The exiled NUP President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has paid tribute to one of Uganda’s most celebrated playwright, Alex Mukulu, who passed away at the age of 72. Bobi Wine described Mukulu as a rare voice who refused to surrender his conscience, even at a time when, in his view, the Museveni government was using patronage and other incentives to win the loyalty of artists and silence critical voices. He praised Mukulu for speaking truth to power when doing so was difficult, arguing that his legacy goes beyond theatre it is also about courage, integrity and the willingness to stand by one's convictions. You may hate Museveni but he has always been a tactical genius. The way he methodically explains military strategy and maneuvering, I can't imagine Bobi Wine explaining things like this. Muhoozi has large shoes to fill! I had to watch this 3 times to appreciate his brilliance. He is a once in a lifetime leader. You will miss him when he's gone. Let us appreciate him while he's still around 😄 Let us hope our next leader, whether it is Bobi Wine or Muhoozi, can step up to this level.

For as long as I know, there is no country on earth where you were organise a procession through a major town and determine your own routes. Uganda Police Force had a meeting with Bobi wine’s team prior to his visit to fortportal and agreed on the venue and route plan, When Bobi wine reached in Fortportal, he deliberately ignored all the police guidelines and wanted to use his own routes. Uganda's🇺🇬 President Yoweri Museveni's government has ordered the shutdown of internet access, restriction of social media, and outbound data roaming services, just hours before Thursday's election. "This measure is necessary to mitigate the rapid spread of online misinformation, disinformation, electoral fraud and related risks, as well as preventing of incitement of violence that could affect public confidence and national security during the election period," a statement from Uganda Communications Commission reads in part. It is not the first time that Museveni's government has shut down the internet and restricted access to social media. During the last election, his government imposed a total nationwide internet blackout. Museveni's main rival in Thursday's presidential election is Bobi Wine, a 43-year-old popular pop star, who has garnered significant attention and support from the younger generation, making this election particularly noteworthy in Uganda's political landscape. The broadcaster posed a question that is increasingly being asked across the country: Is Muhoozi Kainerugaba above the law? The Daily Monitor has also continued reporting on the controversy despite the threats, setting up a confrontation that many Ugandans never expected to see. For years, critics have accused powerful figures in government of operating with impunity, but now major media institutions appear unwilling to simply look away.
