The U.S. Treasury announced Wednesday that it will begin rolling out a new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump's likeness. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the coin is part of commemorations marking 250 years of American independence. Despite its gold-like finish, Treasury says the coin contains no actual gold. Federal law prohibits the U.S. Mint from putting the likeness of a living person on currency, but Bessent says the new coins are permitted because they are commemorative. The coin is expected to enter circulation this fall.

Fox News’ Jesse Watters: “Donald Trump’s signature will be on a $100 bill.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent: “It’s going to be on all the currency for the 250th… We have the president’s signature, which I think is appropriate for the 250th. During the 150th, there was a Calvin Coolidge coin, so we can put a living person’s image on a coin.” “The president’s also going to have a coin coming out with his image on it.”
