Four doors, a fastback roofline, no B-pillar, and frameless windows, none of which existed together in one car before this. The CLS 500 came with the 5.0L M113 V8, 306 HP and 460 Nm, fitted with two spark plugs per cylinder for a more even burn across the combustion cycle. It was built on the W211 E-Class platform but with completely different proportions and a lower, more aggressive seating position with 4 seats, not 5. That made it feel like a different car entirely.
