U.S. company Mara has presented its Spike counter-drone system, designed to defend against FPV drones. The system consists of two main components: the Spotter detection module, which uses visual and acoustic sensors to identify incoming drones, and the Seeker interceptor UAV. Americans are not ready to watch sons and daughters hunted by FPV drones. Some may not like this post, and that’s OK. Some may see this as being a “panican,” and that is also OK. My tolerance for American blood being spilled is very, very low. But this needs to be said: If you have paid any attention to the war in Ukraine, you will know how drone warfare has escalated. You will have an understanding of the sophistication of the Ukrainians and Russians in their pursuit of hunting and killing each other with human-guided robots strapped with explosives. We know Russia and Iran share military ties; hell, the most common form of long-range standoff munition used to target Ukrainian infrastructure is an Iranian-designed Shahed drone. Now, are the Iranians as sophisticated as the Russians? No. But will a ground action result in grainy videos of Americans being hit by FPV drones? Almost certainly. Could the deployment of ground forces to the Gulf be a feint? Sure, it could be, but this point extends beyond Iran. The U.S. needs to be ready to counter the drone menace. I won’t pretend to know the inner machinations of the Joint Chiefs, the White House, or President Trump, but with the destruction of an E-3 Sentry on the runway, it has become absolutely clear the U.S. armed forces have not scaled their ability to handle drones. I don’t know what the answer here is, but I haven’t seen this point brought up at the frequency it deserves. It needs to be said. We are not ready for footage of American soldiers and Marines cowering in their last moments, set to some upbeat pop song or some cleric screaming praises to Allah.

It has been a privilege to collaborate with Amanda Davies and Ghaleb Krame, Ph.D. on research that explores one of the most significant emerging security challenges of our time. We are honored that our paper, “A Framework for Predicting Adoption of AI-Enabled Autonomous Drone Capabilities by Transnational Organized Crime and Foreign Terrorist Organisations”, has been accepted for presentation at EMCIS 2026, the 23rd European Mediterranean & Middle Eastern Conference on Information Systems, to be held in Paris this August. What makes this particularly meaningful is that the research was completed and submitted well before the issue entered the center of public policy discussions in Washington. Our study examined the pathways through which transnational criminal organizations could evolve from conventional drone operations toward increasingly autonomous and AI-enabled capabilities. Using structured comparative analysis and open-source intelligence, it identified conditions under which such technological adoption could accelerate. Just on June 2, 2026, during testimony before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Secretary Marco Rubio warned that Mexican cartels are already employing drones and that these capabilities could ultimately threaten U.S. interests. While academic research does not seek to predict headlines, its purpose is to identify emerging risks before they become strategic realities. The growing attention from policymakers underscores the importance of rigorous, evidence-based analysis at the intersection of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and transnational security. We are grateful to the EMCIS reviewers and organizers for recognizing the contribution of this work and for fostering serious discussion on challenges that will increasingly shape the security landscape of the coming decade. I am proud to serve the interests of the United States through research and analysis focused on the evolving capabilities of Mexican cartels. This drone transitions between two configurations: a quadcopter mode (7 feet by 4 feet) for vertical takeoff and landing and a fixed-wing airplane mode (7 feet by 13 feet) for efficient flight. PteroDynamics has contracts with the U.S. Navy, which tests drones at the Naval Air Station at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. The company has also carried out test flights from the flight deck of the USNS Burlington, which is currently stationed in New Jersey. This capability might explain the drone sightings reported from the sea. These sightings are likely tied to classified U.S. Navy drone testing, which explains the federal government’s silence on the matter. If these drones are not the PteroDynamics X-P4, they are likely similar unmanned aerial systems being evaluated by the U.S. military. That's the most logical explanation for why the federal government is allowing these operations to happen. At this point, it appears to be as much an experiment in psychological operations as it is a test of drone technology.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence has published data on the War&Sanctions portal about a new modification of Russia’s Geran-4 jet-powered drones, which Russians began using this autumn. Asmongold shows how easy it is to fool MAGA bots that the Iran war is going well. He believed a fake graph of Iranian missile launches. The numbers are made up and the source at the bottom is "IDF Spokesperson". The graph is three days old and predicted Iran would basically be out of missiles by today. The problem is, Iran has launched several waves of missiles TODAY ALONE and they've successfully targeted Israel multiple times along with several US bases. A US base is currently on fire! The building targeted housed a stockpile of patriot missiles which are in very short supply. Satellite imagery shows that over the course of thenl last week, Iran has destroyed a large portion of the radar, communications and air defense installations at most of the largest US bases in the region. None of this is known to Asmongold. He just sees a fake graph and says "these are the facts". The only thing aspect of this graph that's true is that Iran has reduced the total number of missiles and drones launched because the enemy interception rate has plummeted following the destruction of air defense systems and depletion of interceptors. Simply put, it takes fewer and fewer missiles and drones to strike targets, which allows Iran's stockpiles to last MUCH longer. This is very much a GOOD thing for Iran.
