The Winlogon registry keys for autologon don't work with the Hyper-V enhanced session mode, so I undusted an old credential provider in C++, made it load default credentials from the registry, and poof, it works! This will be very useful for lab environments 👇

I'll need a proper name for the project. I originally called it RdpCredentialProvider but there's now a DLL from Microsoft using that name. It doesn't need to be RDP-specific but it could be used to automate Winlogon in various ways

Storing credentials in the registry for autologon is only suitable for lab environments, but I'd like to explore secure ways of injecting credentials as well, especially for the Hyper-V enhanced session mode which doesn't have guest login integration *at all*.

is the password protected properly?

That's irrelevant, the autologon password is only used on the console session - it's ignored on any other sessions, which is what you get with the Hyper-V enhanced session mode (similar to RDP):

So you replace a Microsoft dll? Or you can override or extend Microsoft features? I don’t see where the credential provider is configured.

You can build and register your own Windows credential provider, there's an official API for it:
