๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง A Greek sailor named Pytheas wrote down our name in 325 BC. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง It is older than Rome. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น And it is still in your mouth. In 325 BC, a Greek sailed north. His name was Pytheas. He came from Massalia, on the south coast of what is now France. A Greek colony of merchants and navigators. And Pytheas was the most curious man in it. He sailed past Cรกdiz, around Iberia, and headed north. Past the limit of the known world. And he found a sophisticated people working tin. They lived in roundhouses set into the hills. They traded tin into the wider world. And they had a name for themselves. They called themselves the Pretannoi. Which meant the painted people. Their land was called Pretannikฤ“. The Pretannic Isles. And Pytheas wrote it down. ๐Ÿ“œ He returned to Massalia and wrote a book about it. He called it *On the Ocean*. The book itself was lost. But other writers quoted from it for the next 500 years. And the name he wrote down for Britain survived. The Romans wrote it as Britannia. The English wrote it as Britain. And you write it the same way today. The name has not changed in 2,350 years. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Pytheas did not find a backwater. He found a sophisticated people. Working metal at scale. Trading across the sea. And living on land they had named before Rome could write. The Pretannoi became Britons. Their descendants became the British. And the British are still here. Still answering to the name that Pytheas carved into wax 2,350 years ago. Britain is older than Rome. Older than English. Older than the language you speak. โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” Britain is older than English itself. Most Britons don't know. Our work is made in Britain, for Britain. The CELTS were here for A THOUSAND YEARS before Rome even looked at this island ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งโš”๏ธ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ We told you about Alfred. The king who hid in a swamp and saved a civilisation. But before Alfred. Before the Saxons. Before Rome ever set foot here. Someone was already here. The Celts. They didn't arrive with an invasion fleet. They came in waves, over centuries. They built hill forts that still scar the landscape today. Maiden Castle in Dorset. One of the largest in Europe. Built by hand. Defended by ditches so deep an army would break before it reached the walls. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ They were farmers. Metalworkers. Warriors. Their art? Swirling, intricate knotwork. They were making it two thousand years ago. They had druids. Priests, judges, keepers of knowledge. They memorised everything. Laws, history, medicine. Nothing written down. Carried in their heads. And when Rome came, the Celts didn't kneel. Boudica. Queen of the Iceni. The Romans flogged her. Attacked her daughters. She raised an army and burned Colchester, London, and St Albans to the ground. ๐Ÿ”ฅ The ash layer is still in the soil today. Rome won in the end. But it took them decades to control an island they thought would fall in weeks. And when Rome left in 410 AD, the Celts were still here. Their blood, their language, their stories. Woven into everything that came after. The Saxons. The Vikings. The Normans. All of them built on what the Celts had already laid down. Wales. Cornwall. Scotland. Ireland. Brittany. The Celtic world didn't vanish. It moved to the edges. And it held on. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ๐Ÿ€ It's still holding on. So are we. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Be part of us. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Every British river. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Has a name older than English. Older than Rome. You still say it. The Thames. The Romans wrote it as Tamesis. But the name they wrote was already old when they arrived. A pre-Celtic name passed to the Celts, passed to Rome, passed to us. The name has changed only in the shape of the sound. The Severn. The Welsh called her Sabrina. A river goddess in the Brittonic tongue. And the Severn still carries her name today. ๐Ÿž๏ธ The Trent. The Celts called it Trisanton. A name meaning the trespasser. The river that bursts its banks. And it still bursts its banks. The Avon. The word means river. The Britons called every river the Avon. The English kept the name. The Tyne. A Brittonic name meaning the flowing one. The Dee. A name meaning the goddess, the holy one. The Britons named her sacred and the English left her sacred. The Anglo-Saxons came. They renamed villages. They renamed hills. They renamed almost everything they could. But they did not rename the rivers. The rivers were too holy. The names were too rooted. And so the Brittonic words stayed in English mouths. The Britons did not vanish. Their words did not vanish. Their descendants became the British. And the British still name the river the same way. Every time. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง British people speak a language older than English. Every day. Without noticing. The Britons named the water. The British still call it the same. โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” The river names are not relics. The villages changed names. The rivers kept theirs. After we told the story of the Celts, you asked us one question more than any other. โ”โ“โ” What happened to the Britons? ๐Ÿฐ They were here for over three thousand years before Rome set foot on this island. They spoke Brythonic. The ancestor of Welsh, Cornish, and Breton. They built Maiden Castle. The largest hill fort in Europe. Six hundred years before Christ. And over two thousand more across Britain. Their kings minted coins stamped with their own names. Their settlements stretched for miles. They traded wine with Rome and pottery with Gaul. The Greeks wrote about them. And called them civilised. โš”๏ธ When Rome invaded in 43 AD, Caractacus fought them for seven years across the mountains of Wales. When they captured him and dragged him before the Emperor, he gave a speech so defiant they let him live. Then Boudicca burned London to the ground. Seventy thousand dead. Rome won. Eventually. But the Britons didn't disappear. They adapted. Built Roman towns. Spoke Latin in public and Brythonic at home. At Bath, they merged their goddess Sulis with Rome's Minerva. Then Rome left. The Saxons came. And the textbooks say the Britons vanished. Replaced. Gone. ๐Ÿงฌ Except they weren't. In 2022, scientists analysed hundreds of ancient skeletons buried across England. DNA from people who lived through the Saxon arrival. The Britons weren't replaced. They survived. They passed it down. They continued. Much of your ancestry traces back to the Britons and earlier. In the west, it's even more. The people the textbooks erased are still here. The Saxons built England. But the Britons are its foundations. Three thousand years. And they're still here. Not in a museum. Not in a textbook. In you. Be proud of them. Be Proud Of Us. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Caesar called them barbarians. They had already made THIS. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ In 1857, dredgers clearing the Thames near Chelsea Bridge pulled something from the silt ๐ŸŒŠ They washed it clean. A bronze shield. 27 red glass studs. Worked by hand ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ The dredger had never seen anything like it. This is the story of the Battersea Shield ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง It was sent to the British Museum ๐Ÿ›๏ธ The curators dated it to the late Iron Age. 2,000 years old. Older than England. Older than Rome's arrival here. Who made it? Britons did. At a workbench in a roundhouse, by firelight ๐Ÿ”ฅ They beat the bronze. They set the red glass. It took months. But this shield was not for battle โš”๏ธ The bronze was too thin to stop a blade. It was made to be given. Their rivers were sacred. At dawn ๐ŸŒ… they raised the shield. And gave it to the Thames ๐ŸŒŠ It sank. The Romans wrote them down โœ๏ธ Julius Caesar ๐Ÿ“œ wrote that the barbaric Britons painted themselves blue. But this shield was already centuries old when he wrote that. Its makers knew how to set red glass into bronze. 2,000 years passed. Rome came. And went. Saxons came. Normans came. England rose. Britain rose. The shield stayed where it was. Until 1857. Now it hangs in the British Museum ๐Ÿ›๏ธ It is one of many. Stone by stone. Shield by shield ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Made by Britons. Inherited by the British ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Will you help us spread our history to those who need to hear? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐Ÿ‘ˆ Be part of us. โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Be Proud Of Us. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง In chains.. An ancient Briton stood before the slave empire of Rome. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น And asked them a question that shamed them into silence. โ“ His name was Caratacus. His people called themselves the Pretannoi. Greek explorers wrote their name down in 325 BC. The Romans would later call them Britanni. The name of this island was older than the empire that came to break it. โš”๏ธ In 43 AD, Rome invaded. Caratacus and his people fought. They lost their lands. But Caratacus did not stop. He fled west to the mountains of what is now Wales. He rallied two more tribes. The Silures and the Ordovices. For 9 years he fought Rome from the Welsh mountains. The Romans called him the most dangerous enemy in Britain. In 51 AD they finally cornered him. His army was destroyed. He fled north for sanctuary and was put in chains and given to Rome. They marched him 1,500 miles. His wife, his daughter, his brothers, all in chains. The Romans expected him to beg. They had heard the others beg. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ They brought him before the Roman Senate. The most powerful body of men in the known world. And one Briton stood before them in chains. He spoke: "Had your ancestors been more moderate, I might have come to this city as a friend, not a captive." "Why, when you wish to rule the world, must it follow that the world should welcome slavery?" "Grant me life, and I shall be an everlasting example of your mercy." The Senate sat in silence. Claudius ordered his chains struck off. The Briton who had fought Rome for 9 years would live the rest of his life a free man in the heart of it. He was the first Briton on record to refuse Slavery. He would not be the last. โš–๏ธ In 1772 a London court ruled no man could be held as a slave on English soil. โš–๏ธ In 1807 the House of Commons banned the slave trade. ๐Ÿ”ฅ The slave empire of Rome could not make the world welcome Slavery. And the British have been refusing it ever since. โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” 2,000 years on, his question still stands in us. Help us carry it further. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐Ÿ‘ˆ Be part of us. โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Be Proud Of Us. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

2,300 years ago, a Greek astronomer sailed to the edge of the known world ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง His name was Pytheas. He sailed from Marseille through the Strait of Gibraltar and turned north. He was looking for the source of something the entire ancient world depended on. Tin. Without tin, you can't make bronze. Without bronze, there's no Bronze Age. No weapons. No tools. No armour. And the richest source of tin in the ancient world? Cornwall. For over a thousand years before Pytheas arrived, Cornish tin had been reaching Egypt, Turkey, and Greece. Tin ingots chemically matched to Cornish earth have been found in ancient tombs across the Mediterranean. Britain was connected to the ancient world 1,000 years before Rome set foot here. Pytheas visited the mines. He described a tidal island where tin was loaded onto ships at low tide. Most historians believe that island is St Michael's Mount. Still there. Still beautiful. But here's what matters most. Pytheas didn't find savages. He found a civilisation. Hospitable people. Grain farmers. Beer brewers. Kings with trade networks spanning the known world. He wrote the first ever description of Britain and its people. His book "On the Ocean" has been lost for 2,000 years, but fragments quoted by later writers tell us something extraordinary. Britain wasn't at the edge of the world. It was at the centre of it. Every bronze sword in Greece. Every bronze shield in Egypt. Cornish tin inside every one. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐Ÿณ๏ธ๐Ÿด They taught you Greece was the cradle of civilisation. They didn't mention who supplied the metal. You can walk that causeway today. The same path they carried tin across two thousand years ago. And nobody's teaching it. We are ๐Ÿ‘‡ ๐Ÿ‘‰ Be proud of us. Be proud of us. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

You have a birthday. So does England. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ And itโ€™s today. The 12th of July. Almost 1,100 years ago, on this exact day, England became a country. Almost no one knows it. The island was old long before it had a name. Farmers. Romans. Saxons. Then out of the sea came the Danes. โš”๏ธ They came to raid. They stayed to farm. And one hard question hung over the whole land. Two peoples, Saxon and Dane, one small island. Whose country was it now? Alfred of Wessex held the last corner and turned the tide. But he wanted more than a truce. One country. For both peoples. One England. He died before he could build it. ๐Ÿ”ฅ So his family finished it. His son took back town after town. His daughter ร†thelflรฆd led the armies herself. A woman commanding armies more than 1,000 years ago. But it was Alfredโ€™s grandson who ended the work. ร†thelstan. In 927 he rode north and took York, the last Viking crown in England. One man now held every English kingdom. Then he did something stranger. He called the other kings of Britain to a bridge in the north. A quiet place called Eamont. ๐Ÿ“œ Scots. Welsh. The kings of the north. There, by the river, they bent the knee. And that morning he took a new title. Not king of Wessex. Not king of the Saxons. King of the English. All of them. That bridge, on this day in 927, is the closest thing we have to the morning a country began. โš–๏ธ He made it real. One law, coast to coast. One coin, struck the same everywhere. On it he wears a crown, not a war helmet. Then in 937 they came to destroy it. Vikings, Scots, the men of the north. The largest army the island had ever seen. They met him at Brunanburh. Dawn to dark. Five kings fell. And when the sun went down, ร†thelstan was still standing. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ England had been tested. And England had held. He left no son. He died in 939 and chose a quiet abbey at Malmesbury. Alone, in the country he had made. But it never came apart. Every king and queen of England since has sat on the throne he built. More than 1,000 years. Unbroken. You were taught 1066. The Tudors. The wars. But not this. Not the king who made the country. Not the bridge. Not the 12th of July. ร†thelstan. The first king of England. And the one we forgot. Next year it turns 1,100. England has a birthday. And now you know when it is. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง You did not choose to be born here. But you inherited a country with a beginning. A name won on a bridge, 1,100 years ago. That is yours. No one can take it from you. Help us remember the king who made us. Help us remember who we are. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐Ÿ‘ˆ Be part of us. โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Be Proud Of Us. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

They said English culture doesn't exist. They said it in English. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ The most spoken language on Earth. Born on this island. Fifteen hundred years ago, three tribes crossed the North Sea. Angles. Saxons. Jutes. They brought words we still use today. Earth. Water. Fire. Love. Mother. Father. Child. They called their language Englisc. They called this place Engla land. Land of the Angles. Then the Vikings came. They didn't just raid. They settled. Became neighbours. And when you live next door to someone, your languages merge. Sky. Skull. Knife. Window, the Viking for "wind-eye." They. Them. Their. Those aren't English words. They're Viking. Ordinary people chose them because they worked better. Then came 1066. The Normans conquered England. The new rulers spoke French. For three hundred years, English had no official status in its own country. But the people never stopped speaking it. The farmer called it a cow. The lord called it beef. Pig and pork. Sheep and mutton. That class divide is still on your plate tonight. English didn't die. It swallowed ten thousand French words and came back stronger. Today. One and a half billion people speak this language. Every pilot on Earth speaks it. Half the internet is written in it. No academy designed it. No king commanded it. It was built by ordinary people. On this island. They said English culture doesn't exist. They said it in English. You're the reason these stories reach millions of people. Not sponsors. Not ads. You. Be Proud Of Us. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

That pound in your pocket? ๐Ÿช™๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง That's the oldest currency in the world. It was there during two world wars. Bombs falling on London. Ration books on the counter. The pound was still there. The civil war tore this country in half. Royalists on one side. Parliament on the other. The pound survived both. โš”๏ธ Henry VIII tried to destroy it. Mixed cheap copper into the silver. The silver wore away and the copper showed through on his nose. They called him Old Coppernose. The pound didn't die. The people wouldn't let it. ๐Ÿ‘‘ The Normans conquered this island in 1066. Changed the language. Changed the laws. Changed the king. They kept the pound. Vikings raided these shores for two hundred years. Burned monasteries. Sacked towns. The pound was already here when they arrived. And it was still here when they left. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ It was here before England existed. Before there was a country to spend it in. In 780 AD, a king called Offa ruled a kingdom called Mercia. Nobody trusted anybody else's money. So he standardised the silver penny. Every coin the same weight. Every coin the same silver. 240 of them weighed exactly one pound of silver. A pound. By weight. That's where the name comes from. ๐Ÿช™ 1,200 years. And it's still in your pocket. The French livre is dead. The Spanish real is dead. The Byzantine solidus is dead. Every great currency in history is gone. Except yours. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Did you ever think about where the pound came from? ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Our island once stretched further. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง An entire country now lies beneath the North Sea. And it still gives us new discoveries. This is the story of Doggerland. The missing island of Europe. 10,000 years ago, the sea looked different. Britain was joined to Europe by a green plain. Wider than England is today. Rivers, marshlands, low hills, herds of red deer. And Mesolithic families followed those herds. Hunters. Fishermen. Mothers. Children. They called it home for thousands of years. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Then the climate warmed. The ice retreated. The sea rose. The plain became marsh. The marsh became coast. And around 6,200 BC, a submarine landslide off the coast of Norway tore loose. The Storegga slide. It sent a wave across the North Sea. Doggerland drowned. The country was finished in a single afternoon. Today, the country sits beneath 100 metres of water. But the sea is shallow. The trawlers reach the old land. The first piece came up in 1931. A trawler off Norfolk hauled in a bone harpoon. Hand-carved. Barbed. Still sharp. Older than every cathedral in Britain. The trawler was called the Colinda. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Because the people of Doggerland did not all drown. Some climbed higher. To the chalk hills of what is now Norfolk. To the moors of Yorkshire. To the river valleys of Cambridgeshire. They became Britons. Their descendants became the British. And the British are still here. Still walking the same hills. Still buried in the same chalk. Britain is older than its coastline. Older than its name. โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” A country drowned. The ones who climbed higher became the British. ๐Ÿ›๏ธโš–๏ธ For a thousand years, the British people governed themselves without the state. This is how they did it. A thousand years ago in England, there were no police. There were no prisons. There was no central state strong enough to reach every village. And yet, somehow, England worked. The reason was something the Anglo-Saxons had built into the foundations of their society. They called it frankpledge. Every man in every village belonged to a group of ten. They were called a tithing. โš–๏ธ And each man, by law, was responsible for the conduct of every other man in his tithing. If one man committed a crime, his nine neighbours were responsible for bringing him to justice. If they failed, they paid the fine themselves. The whole tithing answered for the crime of one man. ๐Ÿ“œ The system was given the force of law by King Canute, the Anglo-Danish king who united England in peace. Between 1016 and 1035, Canute decreed that every man over the age of 12 must belong to a tithing. When the Normans came in 1066, they could have abolished it. They did the opposite. William the Conqueror kept the Anglo-Saxon system. And he made it stronger. โš”๏ธ Twice every year, the Sheriff would arrive in the village. He would call the tithings together. He would check that every man was accounted for. This was called the View of Frankpledge. The system held England together for 300 years. And when the king's courts eventually grew to replace it, two pieces of frankpledge stayed behind. ๐Ÿ”ฅ The first became the jury. Twelve neighbours, called to judge another. The same idea, transplanted from the village to the courtroom. The second became the constable. The man chosen from among neighbours to keep the peace. Not imposed from above. Chosen from below. Modern British policing began here. The jury system began here. The principle that ordinary British people are responsible for ordinary British people began in an Anglo-Saxon village a thousand years ago. โœ๏ธ For a thousand years, we have been responsible for each other. We do not need the state to teach us how to belong. โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” This channel has no ads. No sponsors. No state funding. It is built the same way the tithing was built. Before England. Before Britain. Before the Romans. ๐ŸŒฟ There was a class of people in this island who held everything in their heads. The Romans called them Druids. ๐ŸŒณ They were the doctors. The lawyers. The judges. The astronomers. The philosophers. The poets. All in one. In one lifetime. They could walk between two armies about to fight and stop the battle. With a raised hand. โœ‹ Caesar recorded this. Strabo recorded this. Diodorus Siculus recorded this. Three independent sources. Caesar himself wrote that Britain was the origin of Druidism ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Training took up to twenty years. Medicine. Law. Astronomy. Philosophy. History. The size of the cosmos. โญ All of it memorised. Not one word written down. On the sixth day of the moon a Druid in white climbed an oak tree with a golden sickle and cut the mistletoe. Others caught it in white cloth below. It must never touch the ground. They called it the all-healing. ๐ŸŒฟ They believed the soul was immortal. After death it passed from one body to the next. The fear of death was cast aside. ๐Ÿ’€ Once a year they marked the barrier between the living and the dead. October the thirty-first. ๐ŸŽƒ Every fire across Britain was extinguished. The Arch-Druid climbed a sacred hill in gold robes and lit a single new fire. They burned the bones of animals in it. The bone-fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ We call it a bonfire now. People dressed as monsters to hide from the spirits of the dead. We call it Halloween. The Druids invented Halloween. ๐Ÿ‘ป In 60AD Rome came for them. Flat-bottomed boats crossed the Menai Strait. The cavalry swam alongside their horses. On the opposite shore women in black robes brandished torches. Druids with their hands raised to heaven. Screaming curses. Tacitus wrote that the Roman soldiers, hardened legionaries, were frozen with terror. ๐Ÿ˜จ They stood motionless. Shields not raised. Exposed to wounds. Their commanders had to shout at them to remember they were soldiers. They crossed. They massacred. They cut down the sacred groves. And Britain went silent. ๐ŸŒ‘ No buildings. No inscriptions. No graves. Their temples were forest clearings. Everything we know about them comes from the people who destroyed them. And yet. ๐ŸŒณ Halloween. The word bonfire. The oak groves they called sacred still stand. Be Proud Of Us. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Your support goes straight into educating fellow Britons on the history they were never taught. Be part of us:

๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Your ancestors advanced human civilisation further than any people who ever lived. This is what they did. They looked at the oldest evil in human history. Slavery. Every civilisation on earth had accepted it. These people decided to end it. Not their government. Not their king. Ordinary people. With no power except their conscience. They organised the first mass petition in history. ๐Ÿ“œ The first boycott ever. A man on horseback who didn't stop for thirty-five thousand miles. ๐Ÿด He introduced the same bill to Parliament for twenty years. On the twentieth year the House of Commons rose to its feet. Eight hundred thousand people. Free. In a single act of law. โ›“๏ธ They paid forty per cent of the national budget. They carried the debt for a hundred and eighty-two years. And decided that wasn't enough. Sixty years. Three thousand miles of coastline. Sixteen hundred ships captured. A hundred and fifty thousand people freed. โš“ Over fifteen hundred British sailors died doing it. One for every nine they freed. They didn't stop when it was expensive. They didn't stop when their own people were hungry. They didn't stop for a century. The Atlantic fell silent. And when it did the mill workers of Lancashire, who had chosen to go hungry rather than buy cotton picked by slaves, received a letter from Abraham Lincoln. โœ‰๏ธ He called it "an instance of sublime Christian heroism which has not been surpassed in any age or in any country."
