I’ve been feeling heavy today and thinking about the Reiner family. I wanted to share this clip from my interview with Carl Reiner because it captures something I’ll always treasure. Just before we went live — while the opening titles were playing — I sat down across from Carl, casually took off my shoes as if getting comfortable, then opened a box and pulled out an identical pair and put them on. It was completely absurd, very subtle, and meant only for him. The audience never saw it — Carl was the only one who witnessed this ridiculous little moment. He looked genuinely puzzled for a beat, trying to process what he’d just seen, and then we were live! As you see in this clip he laughed and then said I was either a genius or an idiot. Coming from Carl Reiner, I’ll take either. Carl had a rare gift for recognizing and appreciating silliness in its purest form. In light of recent heartbreaking news, I send my deepest condolences and love to his family. May the laughter he gave the world continue to bring some comfort during an unimaginably difficult time.

The ban on #cousinmarriage is one explanation for the origin of The West's genius & exceptionalism I discuss this in my TRIGGERnometry interview 👇 Harvard's Prof J Heinrich argues that the Western mind evolved differently & was a global anomaly because of the 9th century Western (Catholic) Church's ban on cousin marriage. Up to that point, the structure of societies across the globe was defined by kinship clans - large extended families where your first, second, third, fourth cousins were as much part of the family as brothers and sisters. These clan societies were based upon nepotism, obedience to authority and conformity. Strangers were regard with distrust and hostility. In the West, the ban on marriage between certain degrees of consanguinity resulted in the birth of the nuclear family, which didn't exist elsewhere. Today, 75% of the world still has cousin marriages. According to Heinrich, approx. 90% of the world doesn't have the same notion of the exclusive nuclear family that we have. The birth of the Western nuclear family devoid of its external connections to clanship, directly let to the emergence of individuality and innovation. With kinship clans destroyed, the nuclear family had to rely on contact with strangers. This led to the development of high levels of social trust in the West. Social trust is one of the most important criteria for a society's economic prosperity and social cohesion. With high levels of social trust, these medieval European nuclear families were able to come together & cooperate for their mutual benefit. They achieved this, for example, by establishing guilds, confraternities, universities and charter towns. These uniquely Western institutions helped to foster the cross-pollination of ideas and skills, through which innovation exploded. The exclusively Western notion of individualism was core to this, as well. And much of that is due to Protestantism. I explain all this in greater detail in this video:

Together, they generate over 25 million views per month, making them among the most influential political voices on social media in a country of just under 10 million people. The suspension came just hours after Amit Segal, one of Israel's most powerful television journalists and broadcasters, known to be close to Prime Minister Netanyahu, publicly attacked my freedom of speech in a series of posts on X. He was joined by several journalists from major Israeli media outlets, all targeting my political activity and my campaign to change the government. His posts preceded the suspension of my accounts by just a few hours. At the very moment my campaign was at the center of Israeli public debate, my accounts on Facebook and Instagram were suspended. As of this moment, I have no access whatsoever to my accounts. Despite reaching out to official Meta employees in Israel, the issue remains unresolved. This is precisely the kind of intervention we have read about in 'Careless People' by Sarah Wynn-Williams, the ways in which powerful social media platforms have been used across different countries to interfere in democratic processes and tilt the balance of power in favor of autocratic and anti-democratic forces. At this moment, I am experiencing what I can only describe as political interference and the weaponization of the world's largest social network against free speech happening here, in Israel. In the coming hours, I will be taking legal action against this interference in Israel's democratic process by Meta. I call on international press freedom organizations, journalists, and media outlets around the world to cover and investigate this case.
