So in these compound movements is the time under tension doing more to strengthen the accessory muscles (like your core muscles) than necessarily strengthening the main muscles involved in the exercise?

I liken tightness and a slow decent in a squat or bench to keeping the spring tight and loaded for an explosive push from the bottom. Defend too quickly and the spring is loose and lacks tension in the bottom
