But to make them the new default, we need to rally the entire stack of tools we already use today, wallets, explorers, indexers, and more. It's a big lift, and it's happening now. The work the team at Blockscout 🔭 did is a step in that direction: they're the first block explorer to natively support ERC-7984 confidential tokens, verifiable transfers with encrypted amounts. We recorded a demo with DOSH | 🦇🔊 from the Blockscout team, walking through how it works, and what explorers become when encrypted tokens are the default. This demo shows the work Zama is doing across the board: onboarding the tooling the ecosystem already relies on, so confidentiality onchain becomes the new normal, not the exception.

Live demo in my interview with Zama CEO Rand on Ethereum. USDT was shielded and converted into confidential USDT 1:1. The chain can see that shielding happened, but every transfer after that is fully encrypted. $2 were sent. Etherscan shows the transfer, not the amount. It could be $2, $5, or $1M. This demo shows how FHE enables private transfers in seconds. Not minutes like ZK. Onchain privacy is finally usable on Ethereum.

FHE has been getting ~10× faster per year over the past few years. Some of that comes from better cryptography, but most of the gains now are from hardware acceleration. Moving from CPU → GPU → FPGA → ASIC is basically how you go from ~10 confidential stablecoin transfers per second to ~100,000 confidential stablecoin transfers per second.
