If you go back to the 1920s, the United States passed an immigration reform act and that effectively cut down immigration to close to 0 for 40 years in this country What is the exact number of immigrants in America should accept in the future? Right now, the answer is far less than we have been accepting. We have got to become a common community again. And you can't do that when you have such high numbers of immigration, which is one of the reasons why we have the immigration policy we do.

“Targeted immigration is good … that’s good immigration. It’s targeted, it’s small, and it improves the standard of living”. I’m afraid on this one I vehemently disagree with Rupert Lowe MP. Here’s why …. Britain currently has 6.5 million people on out of work benefits and has some of the lowest automation/robotics rates (and therefore productivity rates) in the developed world. If there is a shortage of a certain skill and you allow that skill to be imported, even if you think it’s just for the short term, it encourages businesses not to innovate or to increase wages to attract talent off of welfare and into work. We have rising unemployment and low economic activity rates so there is tremendous slack in the economy in terms of labour supply. There is no need to have any immigration to plug that gap. In a world of full employment, high economic activity rates, low welfare dependency, and high productivity I could see a scenario in which some temporary workers from Anglo/European countries becomes sensible. However, we are decades away from that world and even if we weren’t we should be encouraging the diaspora to return home with a massive incentive program rather than taking any immigration outside of that sphere. That would more than plug any shortages we had. Which gets me back to my point. We don’t need any immigration at all. We never have and never will.
