This is a historic day for the Middle East. The collapse of the Assad regime, the tyranny in Damascus, offers great opportunity but also is fraught with significant dangers. We send a hand of peace to all those beyond our border in Syria: to the Druze, to the Kurds, to the Christians, and to the Muslims who want to live in peace with Israel.

This is not Israel. This is Sweida, southern Syria. Thousands of Druze and Christians are taking to the streets to demand independence from the Islamist-led government and express their desire for an alliance with Israel. I know this is a hard pill to swallow for leftists and so-called human rights activists in the West, but in the Middle East, the actual persecuted non-Muslim minorities look up to Israel as their protector.

A message of hope and honourable future for the people of Syria. Allah has freed them from a sectarian coalition of killers and rapists. We look forward to a better future for our brothers and sisters in Syria.

💔 I grew up in a culture where taking a life is easier than taking a breath. Until when will this be our reality in the Middle East? Save the minorities from jihadist criminals!

The protection of Christian populations in the wider area of the Middle East is an issue of utmost importance for Greece. We have condemned any act of violence directed against religious freedom in the area and we have declared our support for the Christian communities. We have also expressed our views on the protection of all the religious minorities in the Middle East. The Christians in the Middle East are not a minority group, they are native populations, an integral element of the historical continuity and the social fabric, both in Lebanon and Syria and in the wider Middle East. That is why we firmly support the Greek-Orthodox Patriarchates and we will do what is possible in the future to that end. (from the joint statements with the Minister of National Defence of Lebanon Michel Menassah Michel Menassa after our meeting at Υπουργείο Εθνικής Άμυνας)

This is from 1982 in Lebanon. These kids look exactly like me and my brothers. This was our life. We grew up under Israeli bombs. Hezbollah didn't exist. Hamas didn't exist. Israel is the problem. Resistance groups are consequences. Nothing started on October 7.

An excellent meeting that we planned earlier this week with my dear friend, Ambassador Ambassador Mike Huckabee, today in Jerusalem. We discussed how the unique U.S.-Israel partnership is acting as a force for good at this historic moment in the Middle East. Watch our full remarks:

Turkish President Erdogan: From Gaza to Lebanon, from Somalia to Syria, from Arakan to Sudan — wherever there is an oppressed person, wherever there is someone with tears in their eyes and a bowed head, we will continue to spread our wings over them. I ask our youth to always keep this in mind: just as it was 10 years ago, today the world's eyes are upon us. Today, Beirut, Damascus, Aleppo, Tripoli, Sarajevo are watching us. The innocent children of Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem are watching us. From the Middle East to the Balkans, from the Caucasus to Africa — the oppressed and the wronged look to Türkiye with great hope.

More & more Druze from across the Middle East ask Israel to protect the Druze pop. on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights and in Suwayda in south-western Syria. The city has 120 000 inhabitants, a majority of which are Druze. There’s also a large group of Greek Orthodox 🇮🇱🇸🇾
