There needs to be a real conversation about the targeting rule this offseason. This being an ejection —let alone a penalty in the first place— is pathetic

Absolutely crushed the Huskies spirit. Terrible rule and call.

The announcers said it was a textbook tackle before they saw the flag

As an Oregon Duck, someone who DESPISES Washington, this was an absolute atrocity of a call. Dixon made a textbook tackle. Targeting is the worst flag in all of sports. Punishing a college kid & taking away his ability to play in the following game to an extent is absolute bullshit.

100%. This was a textbook tackle. The offense has to have some responsibility in keeping themselves safe

I’ll be honest I pretty much stopped paying much attention to the game after this call. Shit is ruining the sport

If you reply that this is targeting, or that it should be a penalty but not an ejection, you've probably never even buttoned a chin strap one day of your life. This is perfect form tackling. Like, teach tape stuff. Bullshit call

Just needs to be a yellow card / red card system. Call here is to protect 9, but throwing him out doesn’t change the way anyone plays. You position, brace, lower the shoulder and then all bets are off. If a guy clearly launches at the head, make it red. Plays like this, yellow

He lowered his head, led with the crown and launched upwards. This is textbook targeting and even if there were two levels (e.g. regular and flagrant, with only the latter resulting in ejection) that would be the more serious violation.

I totally agree. I don’t mind the spirit of the rule - protect the players - but it’s 100% a subjective rule. There was NOTHING wrong with that tackle. Led with his shoulder.

He lead with the crown of his helmet. Definition of the rule. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
