There was a time when only the biggest and strongest hitters could hit opposite field HR’s. When I would crush a ball in the air to the opposite field and it would barely get to the Warning Track one of my teammates would say something like “Little man hit... it.” I keep hearing that today’s MLB players are so much stronger and athletic than the players from my ERA and I know that is not true. It wasn’t just steroids. Fitness in baseball as a culture just changed in the 80’s.
