He was in a class all his own. Jonathan Winters, Rich Little, and Rodney Dangerfield were around during his time. Different kinds of comedy, but still great comedians.

The dude was nothing more than a smart ass. But it was how he said what he said mixed with timing that made him funny. When im being a smart ass mixed with timing on the delivery, people get all butt hurt.

You're underestimating him though. He was extremely smart, had a vast wit, and knew what to say and when and to whom. That's more than just being a smart-ass.
