There’s a golf course in Augusta that doesn’t share the same prestige as the home of The Masters. But with the help of Augusta National, the course known as The Patch has a renewed soul. Our story on a public course that deserved the touch of love it recently received:

He died on the very ground he spent decades perfecting. Clifford Roberts helped build The Masters with Bobby Jones, turning it into a global spectacle. But behind the prestige? A life shaped by instability, loss, and control. • Father took his own life • Mother did the same years later • Grew up with no real home or stability • Built Augusta into the one place he could control everything For 40 years, he ran it to near perfection. Then everything started slipping. A stroke. Early signs of dementia. Loss of control. So he made a decision. He flew back to Augusta. Got a haircut. Ate his favorite meal. Wrote a note. Around 3:00 AM… overlooking the course he built… he ended his life there. The Masters has never officially acknowledged it. Once you know this… it’s hard to look at the tournament the same way. Does this add to the legacy… or ruin it?

A train that runs right through the golf course. Sometimes you just know you are going to love a golf course before you step foot on the property. Royal Adelaide has been that place for years now. Now that l've played the golf holes, seen the train, had a drink on the patio with good lads, I can say that it's one of my favorite places in all of golf.

Tommy Fleetwood about his set up for the Masters this week and he gave a really insightful answer about what clubs he needs at Augusta National: “It's a great 9-wood golf course. I think it's always been -- I can't remember when I first put like a 9-wood in or a high lofted club, but it's a perfect like 9-wood golf course. I've had that in the bag for a few years. “No, the bag setup stayed the same really. So the way that I do set it up actually works very well for Augusta, so that's great. “Yeah, it's funny really because I know Augusta is probably associated with being fairly forgiving off the tee in a way, so you think you can whale around driver a little bit. But I don't necessarily think that's always the play for me. I think there's holes that set up really well where I can draw it with the mini driver if I'm feeling less comfortable with the driver and things like that. “The biggest thing is the 9-wood for me. If I can put myself in position on the par-5s or the 4th long par-3, like it -- for me, I can't really hit that high 4-iron, so 9-wood helps me a lot.” I don’t think he’s ever heard Augusta National described as a great 9-wood course before!
