Two kids get trapped in the sand after water entered a hole they dug at Newport Beach in California. Bystanders and eventually lifeguards jumped into action to pull the boys from the sand. “Once that sand gets wet it gets heavy. It basically buried them from their waist down. They couldn't get themselves out,” said Captain Mark Herman. This could’ve gone much worse. Source: Fox 11

Happy Airwolf Sunday! 😎 The final scene from the pilot episode, “Shadow of the Hawke” filmed at the Imperial Sand Dunes in Southern California which are the largest mass of sand dunes in the state. They really did fly this Bell 222 through sand clouds produced by explosions set off for this sequence and that’s why you see Airwolf covered in sand. There was an article written about the mechanics that had to clean the sand out of the engine filters after filming this scene. I’ll have to find the article one of these days that describes it.

At the American Cemetery in Normandy, where rows of white marble headstones stretch farther than the eye can see, I can't help but think of my own family... of fathers, of grandfathers, of men who wore the uniform and answered the call. On that sacred French ground, something quietly powerful happens. 🙏 Caretakers, local volunteers, devoted staff— and historians, move with purpose and respect. They kneel beside each headstone and gently rub sand from Omaha Beach into the engraved letters. I imagine those grains of sand still holding the weight of that day... June 6, 1944. The names come into focus. Clearer. Stronger. Alive again. And I stood there, even if only in my mind, thinking how something so simple could carry so much meaning. I found it so honorable that people-many who never knew these men-would take the time to make sure their names are seen, remembered, and never lost to time. It made me think about those young men— many not much older than boys-who stormed that beach, who never made it back home.
