The design team came up with the COOLEST plan for our Tennessee property! 🏡 We now know exactly what food we can grow in our zone and how to best optimize our layout based on our wants & desires… 🤸🏻‍♀️ Evan DeMarco and I knew we wanted an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, sauna, cold tub, Food Security System, greenhouse with a shower inside (I think we all know where I’ll be until the end of time,) walkways, chicken coop, aviary, and a fenced off area for our cows and goats. If you have followed our journey, you know that the cabin has been, well… an absolute disaster with black mold, termites, rodent/snake/brown recluse infestation. 🏚️🪳 While we remediate and make it safe and habitable, we put up a large living dome and decided we actually wanted to make that area the foundation of our homestead instead. 🍙 Anyway, the main dome is up and now, our beautiful greenhouse dome is too! Can’t wait to make this plan come to life! 🤓 There’s nothing that the team can’t help you do! 🚨 A major operation is underway to try to stabilise a 37 storey under construction building in #NewYork. The former Pfizer HQ building at 235 E 42nd St was being converted from an office to a residential building. Construction workers on the 21st/22nd floors noticed structural support columns & beams buckling and cracks and caused floors 21–26 to sag under load. The city authorities are bringing in emergency beams & columns to strengthen and support the structure and take load after buckling columns & sagging floors. The engineers are monitoring the situation minute-by-minute; emergency trusses are planned once it is safe to enter. The building remains unstable but there is no collapse. The largest conversion of office-to-residences was aimed at adding 1,600 apartments in Manhattan. Over nine nearby buildings have been evacuated; including Kennedy International School with 400 children and a hotel, nearby streets closed near Grand Central. Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani said the building in a partial collapse in Manhattan "remains unstable," & described the incident as an "extremely serious situation." Former ICT minister Supa Mandiwanzira, who is currently Zanu PF Secretary for Local Government, says local municipal councils are fully complicit when illegal houses are being built across cities only to be later demolished for non-compliance and illegality as they allow residential stands purchases, their registration and plans for development of houses. Mandiwanzira highlighted the dilemma and injustice faced by ordinary citizens who lose their life savings when local authorities actively approve and accept money for building plans, only to reverse their stance years later and allow demolitions. Home-seekers usually submit modern house designs with specific addresses to local authorities like the Harare or Bulawayo City councils before construction. The council formally approves and stamps documents to grant building permission. Citizens or residents then spend years building their homes, move in, and pay monthly municipal rates, which councils legally and systematically receive and receipt. Years down the line, the same councils return with court orders to execute mass demolitions, claiming the structures were erected illegally and should removed. It creates space beneath for electrical and data cables, internet lines, and other building services. The biggest advantage is flexibility. For example, in an office, data center, or bank, you may need to move cables or add new ones in the future. With a raised floor, you can lift the access panel and work underneath without breaking the floor. This is why they are commonly useful in: Data centers, large offices, banks, control rooms, telecom buildings, laboratories, and other buildings with many services. And yes, a raised floor can be very strong. But don't assume that every raised floor can carry heavy loads. The panels, pedestals, supports, and spacing must be designed based on the items to be placed on the floor. A data center with heavy server racks will require a different specification from a normal office. So, should every building have a raised floor?
