Ukrainians have heard promises of peace before. They are still facing Russian attacks. Zelenskyy came with concrete requests: Patriot missiles, stronger protection for Ukraine’s energy system and security guarantees. He also said Ukraine is open to an energy ceasefire. Putin’s willingness to meet means little unless Russia stops attacking. Trump keeps treating Putin’s words as progress while Ukraine has to defend its cities. If Trump wants to end the war, he should press the country that started it and give Ukraine the means to survive the winter. Right now, he sounds less like Ukraine’s ally than Putin’s advocate.
