Thief is a Michael Mann masterpiece. The more I’ve watched this, the more it’s morphed into an all-time favorite because the filmmaking here is really mature & really detailed. James Caan was a force of nature. The fact he’s gone still doesn’t feel real. He couldn’t be better.

Michael Mann is a fucking genius. This sequence between Robert Prosky & James Caan at the end of Thief is Mann firing on all cylinders. Prosky matches Caan’s intensity the entire way. It’s why the look on Caan’s face at the end of this scene says it all. “Back to work, Frank….”

Bradley Cooper deserved an Oscar nomination for Nightmare Alley. I really enjoyed this film & still find it to be one of the more underrated movies of the decade. I know it’s a story that starts slow, but the performances & filmmaking are outstanding. Especially Bradley Cooper.

Jim Carrey doesn’t really act anymore & it’s a damn shame. There was a time when this man was the center of Hollywood. You couldn’t turn cable television on without a Carrey rerun playing. That includes Liar Liar. Jim’s only 64, so maybe he’s still got some gas left in the tank.
