At about T-8 hours before Starship Flight 13’s third attempt to launch, what are the conditions out at the launch site? What does the weather look like? And, what is it like to be at the launch site and Starbase about 8 or so hours from a launch? Today I talk about all of this and provide some updates (narration & visuals) on the construction around the launch site too & why much of this is necessary. Oh, and a reminder too. If you have ever thought about coming out to Starbase and experience something you can literally not do anywhere else in the world (being at an active rocket launch site with a fully stacked rocket just hours before a launch all up close), then you need to plan on doing so sooner than later. These opportunities may not last forever, and indeed some restrictions continue to be added over time. SPACEX: I visited Pecan Island in Louisiana's Vermilion Parish. The 136,000-acre site, owned by ExxonMobil and Vermilion Corporation, is under consideration by SpaceX for their next spaceport. Vermilion Corporation owns an unused dock on Freshwater Bayou at the mouth of the Gulf of America. This location would allow SpaceX to barge Super Heavy Boosters and Starships from Starbase. Farther north lies the Freshwater City public boat ramp and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Freshwater Lock, which connects to the Intracoastal Waterway. I flew over the area closest to the port. That’s because it is true and represents a major transition from the more Wild Wild West of prototype development to a more operational, maturing space launch and spacecraft system. After Flight 11, much of the original orbital launch site systems, from the launch mount, to the water deluge & supporting systems are about to be replaced by a brand-new & much more reliable, survivable & rapidly reusable system. These changes will even make the iconic imagery we are familiar with just historical memories. GOOD NEWS 🚨 SpaceX has officially announced plans for a monumental new spaceport called Starbase Louisiana, and it looks like it is going to be one hell of a launch site 🚀 Representing a staggering investment of over $100 billion, this massive facility will span roughly 125,000 acres of coastal marshland in Vermilion Parish near Pecan Island, about 50 miles south of Lafayette. This project is fundamentally designed from day one to be the largest spaceport on Earth. At full buildout, the campus is expected to feature five launch complexes with two pads each, eventually hosting more than a dozen launch towers. Elon Musk confirmed that the facility is built to handle an unprecedented launch cadence of more than 30 Starship flights per day, meaning it could eventually support thousands of spaceflights a year. To realistically sustain that kind of rapid-fire launch schedule, Starbase Louisiana will operate as a fully self-sustaining mega-hub. The site will feature its own on-site propellant production and storage farms, dedicated power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and a private airport. SpaceX is even planning to construct residential housing directly on the sprawling campus for employees and their families. Construction on the new site is slated to begin in 2027, with the highly ambitious goal of launching the first Starship from the Louisiana Gulf Coast as early as 2029. The economic impact will be massive, initially creating over 3,000 direct, permanent jobs with an average annual salary of around $92,600. When factoring in indirect employment, the total number of jobs created is expected to easily push past the 10,000 mark. Beyond the aerospace infrastructure, SpaceX is making major commitments to environmental conservation in an area where the local shoreline currently erodes between 3.3 and 23 feet per year. The company is actively partnering with state and federal agencies to build wave-reducing breakwaters, rebuild thousands of acres of marshland using dredged sediment, and rigorously preserve the high-value coastal habitat for migratory birds and local wildlife. For space enthusiasts, the best part might just be the access. Instead of a locked-down industrial zone, Elon Musk explicitly promised that Starbase Louisiana will be designed with a visitor experience in mind, allowing the public to come out and watch these massive Starships fly, much like the legendary setup at Cape Canaveral.

Nicki Minaj popped out at Elon Musk's rocket launch attempt in Texas. On Thursday (May 21), the eccentric billionaire hosted a SpaceX megarocket launch at his Starbase site in the Lone Star State. Nicki was on hand and spoke with staff for an interview, where she revealed it is her first time seeing a rocket launch and urged the Barbz to pull up. Unfortunately, the launch was delayed due to technical difficulties and has been rescheduled.
