At about T-8 hours before Starship Flight 13’s third attempt to launch, what are the conditions out at the launch site? What does the weather look like? And, what is it like to be at the launch site and Starbase about 8 or so hours from a launch? Today... I talk about all of this and provide some updates (narration & visuals) on the construction around the launch site too & why much of this is necessary. Oh, and a reminder too. If you have ever thought about coming out to Starbase and experience something you can literally not do anywhere else in the world (being at an active rocket launch site with a fully stacked rocket just hours before a launch all up close), then you need to plan on doing so sooner than later. These opportunities may not last forever, and indeed some restrictions continue to be added over time. Why are many in the space community calling SpaceX Starship Flight 11 the Flight of many “Lasts”? That’s because it is true and represents a major transition from the more Wild Wild West of prototype development to a more operational, maturing space launch and spacecraft system. After Flight 11, much of the original orbital launch site systems, from the launch mount, to the water deluge & supporting systems are about to be replaced by a brand-new & much more reliable, survivable & rapidly reusable system. These changes will even make the iconic imagery we are familiar with just historical memories. About six hours to go for Starship Flight 12 and the excitement is building! People are setting up at Isla Blanca Park at the south end of South Padre Island and despite early rain showers, conditions are cool, light winds and improving. Clouds are the main issue right now but visibility is very good! Launch window begins at 5:40 PM CST and runs 1 & 1/2 hours. I’ll be live streaming with Ellie in Space 🚀💫 (Ellie in n Space) starting about 1 hour before the planned launch time. Good luck SpaceX & Starship team! 🤞🚀🍀

Nicki Minaj popped out at Elon Musk's rocket launch attempt in Texas. On Thursday (May 21), the eccentric billionaire hosted a SpaceX megarocket launch at his Starbase site in the Lone Star State. Nicki was on hand and spoke with staff for an interview, where she revealed it is her first time seeing a rocket launch and urged the Barbz to pull up. Unfortunately, the launch was delayed due to technical difficulties and has been rescheduled.

Rains are coming through right now and weather remains a watch item through the afternoon and during the launch window. Still, preparations seem to continue for now, the ship and booster periodically open the pressure relief valves and the water deluge tanks seem to be pressurizing too based on the sounds. Let’s see what things look like in a few hours. 🤞🚀🍀 Ellie in Space 🚀💫

While we wait for SpaceX to de-stack Ship 40 and roll back booster 20 for engine swaps and other checks following yesterdays abort right at engine ignition, I thought I’d share my close encounter of Ship 40 as it rolled to the launch site a few days ago. If you’ve never been to Starbase for a launch, you may not know just how close you can be to the largest rocket in history just hours before it launches … there is nothing else like this anywhere in the world! Waiting for a new launch date … currently NET 20 July, but this could and likely will change so watch for the official SpaceX announcement.

This was by far the most intense one yet with a sudden & dramatic burst of audio energy unlike any of the first 8 launches that Ellie in Space 🚀💫 & I have watched! Turn up the sound on this one ... you can feel & see the shaking of the house we were at in Port Isabele, 5 miles from the launch site!

As we wait for Flight 12 of Starship, I thought I’d share some of the images, sights and sounds around Starbase today. Nice views of the launch suite, another deluge system test, a walk around the Starfactory & views into the Gigabay which is well into construction. So, what is coming up? After midnight tonight, expect both Booster 19 and Ship 39 to depart the production site for the launch pad and then stacking the ship onto the booster ahead of a planned Wet Dress Rehearsal (WDR) tomorrow. Both the Ship and Booster already have the FTS installed and the ship is loaded with the payload (20 Starlink Simulators and 2 More with reaction wheels and cameras) so if all goes well with the WDR tomorrow, they wont need to de-stack and can go right into prep for Wednesday launch attempt, which is currently planned for 20 May at 5:30 PM CST. So, the next 48 hours should have plenty of activity here at Starbase! Hoping for good luck for the Starship team!

Coming to SpaceX StarbaseTX for Flight 12? Well, there are new public access restrictions you need to be aware of that have recently been put into place. All of the area behind (south) of the launch site, including the mud flats and most of the sand dunes are now off limits, which is a big departure from what we have been used to for the previous 11 Flights and before that too. There are new signs and roped off areas, part of both the expansion and construction at the launch site and a wildlife/bird refuge that extends throughout this area. Also, some new restrictions as to where you can park and observe ship and booster rollout operations. The most important thing to keep in mind is follow the instructions you are given by the county Sherrif and the City of Starbase security personnel and do not cross into private or protected areas. Starbase is a very special place that is unlike any other in the world, but over time, there will be more and more restrictions to what you are able to see and do. As always, I recommend you come here sooner than later before we lost all access. I hope this public service announcement is helpful!

#SpaceX is preparing to move the massive new #Starship launch mount structure for #Starbase Pad B to the launch site for installation. In this post, I’ll give an overview of the design and use my 3D models to calculate the structure’s mass in its current configuration. This new launch mount, nearly an entire redesign, is SpaceX’s best effort at correcting many of the issues discovered with the mount at Pad A after a handful of launches. The only similarity between this mount and the original launch mount for Pad A is that 20 arms will still be used to support the #SuperHeavy booster before liftoff. However, the arms and everything else making up the structure are entirely different.

During Starship Flight 11, one interesting test that was completed was a "Dynamic Banking Maneuver" but, what exactly was this and why did SpaceX need to test this flight maneuver? Here is a short discussion and thanks to supporting work by The Space Engineer TheSpaceEngineer who did some great research on the maneuver over the Indian Ocean, we can better understand what a future starship return to the launch site might look like.
