Think your backyard is completely safe for your pets? 👀👀👀 If Eagles are native to your area, you better think again! Eagles are beautiful, impressive birds, but they are also serious predators. Those massive talons aren't there for decoration. Eagles hunt fish, birds, mammals, and whatever else they can... overpower or carry away. And if a small pet happens to look like an easy meal, an eagle may not care that it belongs to somebody. That doesn't mean an eagle is going to swoop down and carry off every dog or cat it sees. Eagles generally go after prey they can realistically handle, and larger pets are usually far too much for them. But very small dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals can potentially be vulnerable, especially if they're left outside unattended in an area where large raptors are common. There's something sobering about realizing that these birds aren't looking at your backyard the way you do. You see a peaceful neighborhood. An eagle sees territory, food, and opportunities to hunt. Nature doesn't care that your pet has a name or sleeps on the couch. To a predator, an opportunity is an opportunity. So the next time you see an eagle circling overhead, are you looking at a majestic bird, or a highly capable predator searching for its next meal?show more
