NDLEA Arrests Fleeing Celebrity Drug Kingpin, Busts International Cocaine Cartel in Lagos By Zagazola Makama The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking cartel operating through Nigeria as a transit hub to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia, arresting its alleged Nigerian kingpin as he attempted to flee the country. The operation also led to the seizure of 184.50kg of cocaine, which the cartel allegedly intended to move through a courier logistics channel in Lagos for onward distribution, with an estimated street value of about N39 billion. The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Marwa described the operation as one of the most significant narcotics investigations undertaken by the agency in recent times, particularly because it resulted in what he described as the largest cocaine seizure made through a courier company in Nigeria. According to him, the investigation began after NDLEA operatives intercepted the 184.50kg consignment concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos. Following the magnitude of the seizure, the NDLEA chairman directed the establishment of a Special Investigation Team to trace the entire trafficking network, including the couriers, intermediaries, financiers and alleged masterminds behind the shipment. The investigation subsequently uncovered a network of companies and individuals allegedly used by the cartel to process and move cocaine out of Nigeria. One of the key suspects arrested was identified as Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics company through which the cocaine consignment was processed. Investigators allegedly established that Kehinde maintained a sustained relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator and was involved in packaging and processing consignments for the syndicate. The NDLEA said he allegedly helped route shipments to the United Kingdom, other European countries and Asia, receiving payments in cash for his role. The investigation then led operatives to a more prominent suspect identified as Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury.” The agency described him as the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the international cartel. According to the NDLEA, Afolabi presented himself publicly as a luxury goods dealer and social media influencer involved in gold, jewellery and other high-value items, while allegedly using the lifestyle surrounding his businesses to conceal his involvement in international cocaine trafficking. Investigators alleged that the network operated a cocaine pipeline stretching from South America through Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia. Marwa said the alleged cartel leader was arrested on the night of August 13, 2026, after the agency received intelligence that he was planning to leave Nigeria on a business-class flight to Paris.NDLEA operatives reportedly moved to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and arrested him at the boarding gate shortly before he could leave the country. He was allegedly found in possession of €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash, alongside expensive jewellery.

Reports emerging from Òṣogbo indicate that students of Ọ̀ṣun State University (UNIOSUN), Main Campus, have allegedly been subjected to various forms of harassment, assault, and abuse by some newly recruited personnel of the Nigerian Army within the last 24 hours. According to accounts from affected students and residents, the incident reportedly occurred in hostels and residential areas located around the University community, which shares close proximity with the Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo. Witnesses alleged that the recruits invaded several student hostels, physically assaulted male students, intimidated residents, and allegedly subjected some female students to degrading treatment. There were also claims of theft of personal belongings during the incident. The development has generated widespread concern among students, parents, civil society groups, and members of the public, who have condemned the alleged actions and called for urgent intervention. Student leaders and concerned stakeholders have described the reports as disturbing and capable of undermining the peaceful coexistence between the university community and security institutions operating within the State. Reports indicate that the Nigerian Army is yet to issue a comprehensive official statement on the allegations as of the time of filing this report. Given the gravity of the allegations, there is an urgent need for the Federal Government, the Chief of Army Staff, the Osun State Government, the National Human Rights Commission, security agencies, and other relevant authorities to immediately investigate the matter. The safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of students must be protected at all times, while ensuring that justice is served for any proven misconduct.
